centaur archers were shooting arrows at you when you were whithin a range attack radius.
evidence :
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=3314

"At lvl 21-24 I was able solo these as a druid, just snare run duck behind a tree then wind blast till they close, then run and duck again, this way those arrows will never stop you from casting only hit you while running between trees. I plan doing the Cent's the same way. Very esy way to lvl up. Also loot on these have been 0-3pp also they drops some med ringmail, and drop those rare words that ppl pay high prices for. just my to 2cp on these. " -May 17 2000"

"So I cast root on one then my DoT then snare. Run away a little cast the same set on another centaur. Just run out of range of their arrows and sit down and med. You med up all your mana the go get another one. " Feb 06 2001"

" run around and cast again then just run outside the arrow range and med. "Feb 06 2001""

also this is how i remember it from back then :)

wanting shooting taurens back !

I remember them! Every time I've fought a centaur archer over the last couple years, I would initially thing "fuck, this thing has ranged attacks" and then "lol, you call yourself an archer?"!

Gnolls in Blackburrow would shoot arrows at you as well. Specifically, the gnolls at the first bridge leading to the elite ledge. I'm not sure which other ones did this, but killing them was a nice way to stock up on free ammo and get your first bow.

Rangers at the Druid Rings should use bows and drop them every kill, as well.

Many of the aqua goblins in dagnors cauldon also used to use bows. It would be great to see this return.

I am not sure if they do or not here, but the ogre guards in Oggok should be shooting you with arrows also.

*cheer* thanks for that fix ! :)

dont know if this works that way but search all bow-wielding npcs and make them use them ?

We could use a more consolidated list of npcs that should use archery. kanras did a lot of them with implementation. This research can be outsourced.

Kroldir_Thunderhoof,centaur_sheltie,centaur_archer ,centaur_foal,centaur_charger,
centaur_courser,Ulan_Meadowgreen,Shakrn_Meadowgree n,Coloth_Meadowgreen,

I'm very happy it works now!

This was likely the first step taken. However, loot tables are not always correct. Might be a good idea to npc magelo search 'Arrow' and go from there.

Added: Peffin Ambersnow, all the rooted crossbow guards in thurgadina

Out of curiosity, is it possible to implement this classic behavior?

http://www.monkly-business.net/forums/showthread.php?t=8568

Another good method of employing this tactic is on things with bows - like the centaurs in Sk. Whack two centaurs, run away and get them to chase - they'll chase you single file, one after the other...meaning the one in back will shoot the one in front in the ass with an arrow at some point or another. FD and watch the one in front go after the one in back, and pick off whoever is still alive at the end.

Or is that not possible because of the way ranged attacks are coded?

When camping my Druid epic on live I explicitly remember this being a common strategy.

You would hide behind Deep and aggro the goblins and they would shoot at you and hit Deep. Deep would destroy them. Saves you the mana of clearing PHers.

It seems like this has been talked about before, when discussing that mob AOEs should also hit other mobs and cause them to fight. Either the coding is tricky, or they're not implementing it intentionally.
