You use piercing for cloth/leather and blunt weaponry for sturdier armaments such as platemail. Also skeletons.

By equipping a character with an epic, haste, etc and specifically keeping them at a level and zone in which one would almost exclusively encounter people wearing rags and cracked staves. and by being fat.
