This is probably a stupid question but in the years and years I've played EQ I never really played tanks. Why does paladin dps suck so much compared to say a warrior if they use the same 2handed weapon? Is it just different skill caps? Different damage bonus?

Paladins are on a different damage table than Warriors. This (should) get changed with Velious. As you note, Paladins also have lower offensive skill caps.

Different combat table, different skill caps, criticals/crippling blows, races with better stats, disciplines... pretty much everything.

Warriors get 2hander triple attack at 60 and they can alternatively dual wield. Epic warriors are very often right up there with monks on dps logs.

Think the damage bonus for twohanders kinda blows in this era, too.

Oh yeah, forgot about triple attack! Sakuragi always said it was a pretty big deal, too.

IIRC double attack for warriors is skill+level/600, so about half the time. Triple attack fires when you have a double attack and with half the chance, so about 1/8 of the time.

1/8 / (1+1/2) = +8% damage from one skill alone

The other big one is just dual wielding. That's probably another +20%

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Rangers the only hybrid class that's on the warrior damage table?
