So I have just noticed that the SWG Emu server is about 10% or less away from being complete and launching into a short Beta before their full release. This really excites me! :D I was a die hard SWG fan and played it till they shut down the servers officially and I would like to form a P99 Guild over there and give a fellow Emu server a welcome from the EverQuest crowd.

Have a lot of you played SWG? Would anyone like to join me in this? It would be nice to get familiar now again before official launch. Gotta grind those Krayt parts and Acklay bones, know what I'm sayin? I am also pretty interested in PvP personally, so if we ran a PvP guild that would be even better, though that isn't necessary since you can find PvP fairly easy on that game. I am also prone to the Imperials. =P Though I guess I could handle being a dirty Rebel.

Anyway, hoping to hear from a few people. I am excited to get my 32 Profession grind on again. =P

I remember taking a survey back in the day on EQ about how i would enjoy a star wars themed MMO. I never played it but always have wanted to try it

If you like sandboxes and StarWars, you just might like SWG. SWG has been the most complex and in-depth MMO I have ever played regarding your characters. You literally can do any combination of skills, and nothing is OP, but there are definitely skill combo's that are great, everything can be trumped by something else. The customization goes from your character all the way to how you want to decorate your house if you are in to that sort of thing. I know I spent hours upon hours in my house and my friends houses making some extravagant masterpiece of a house. You literally make your characters story. There is no < go here > in SWG.

I've tried this server about a year ago, seemed pretty accurate, I had no idea what to do for the hour or so that I logged in, which was the same experience I had when the game was originally released

Wasnt the only box that existed live a year ago though?

me and samwise played on it for a while, or is it a completely new box?

Cant remember the name of the server we played on

SWG was one of my favorite sandboxes, only thing i thought it lacked was there wasnt enough dungeon like places in it, like geonosis

Okay guys, I have some comments as I have played thoroughly on SWG EMU, and there are a number of issues you should be aware of that are NOT like SWG used to be. Yes, it is Pre-CU to a degree, but it does have some key points where they deviate, and it fucks up the server pretty bad.

1) The server doesn't have a Rogean/Nilbog with the specific goal of keeping things "classic" as much as possible. What this means is that the people running the server are not trying to mimic the real SWG.

How so? You can make up to 10 characters per account, and dual box. This creates a *huge* flaw in the economy of the game that relied upon people having 1 toon per server per account, and only 10 deed slots. Now, you can manage up to 100 deed slots without paying for 10 subscriptions. Needless to say, this means the economy is in a terrible place, and you *cannot* make money as an artisan.

In other words, because you do not have to choose between combat/medic/entertainer/artisan with your one and only character, every player that is there is a combat toon, a medic, an entertainer, and an artisan.

2) Pets do not work, so Creature Handler/Droid Engineer are not working.

3) Jedi will be going the Village route, not the holocron/old man route, and will NOT have permadeath, so the server will heavily inflate with Jedi, just as the game did pre-CU. Note that Jedi are not currently done.

4) Due to the huge inflation of artisans, finding exactly what you need is very hard. The bazaar, as per the game, does not have a search function, which is fine when you, as a player, must choose between a combat toon, a doctor, an artisan, or an entertainer... But when *everyone* has a merchant, there are issues of huge numbers of items making the Bazaar difficult to use.

5) JTL is not in the game yet, as they are aiming to finish DE/Creature Handler + Jedi, and then work on JTL.

If you still play, look me up. I am Vighvatr on Basilisk Server. Master Commando/Master Teras Kasi/x1xx Smuggler.

Thanks for posting that. Saved me the chunk of time to find my old discs and get it set up. The pets, boxing, and Jedi village really kill it for me.

I've recently started playing again after taking almost a year-long break. I have no idea why I stopped. I am loving it so much.

Yeah, I still find it fun to do missions and go Krayt hunting. I just want to be up front about the fact that there are some substantial issues that the devs must address to make the game good.

I pre ordered SWG and was excited when it arrived.
I think I even upgraded some hardware to make sure it would run well.

Installed it and ran around for about 4 hours trying to figure out what the point of it was.

about a week later I cancelled my subscription and uninstalled the game.

There is a project being worked on called The Repopulation which is an indie game trying to bring back the SWG/UO feel. https://www.therepopulation.com/

SoE also said their next project after EQN is going to be a place for SWG players to "come home" to.

SWG = Star Wars Galaxies.

1) The server doesn't have a Rogean/Nilbog with the specific goal of keeping things "classic" as much as possible. What this means is that the people running the server are not trying to mimic the real SWG. It will be classic, set at publish 13, just before the Combat Upgrade.

This is because they want the players to test as much as possible. This will not be true when the server has an official launch

In other words, because you do not have to choose between combat/medic/entertainer/artisan with your one and only character, every player that is there is a combat toon, a medic, an entertainer, and an artisan.

2) Pets do not work, so Creature Handler/Droid Engineer are not working.
they just put CH on the Nova Test Center server. The creature/droid pet AI is wicked complex, though they both are near completion.

3) Jedi will be going the Village route, not the holocron/old man route, and will NOT have permadeath, so the server will heavily inflate with Jedi, just as the game did pre-CU. Note that Jedi are not currently done. This is how the game was at Publish 13. The Jedi grind is subject to change after official launch.

I personally don't find this much different from live. To get anything good it was probably going to take a while to find. I usually would ask around.

5) JTL is not in the game yet, as they are aiming to finish DE/Creature Handler + Jedi, and then work on JTL.
JTL is actually going to be worked on come after official launch. It's literally a different game.

Yes, but not nearly like what it is on the server. With every player have a merchant/artisan toon, it is inflated it a degree that was never the case on live where to have a crafting toon and a combat toon, you had to pay another $15 a month.

This is how the game was at Publish 13. The Jedi grind is subject to change after official launch.

Not saying it wasn't. I was saying that it was part of what ruined the game for many, seeing 30-40 Jedi standing around in Theed because there was no consequence for them doing so. I plan to play it after official launch, but not long after, as the server is going to get flooded with hundreds upon hundreds of Jedi, even though they should be an incredibly sparse group of people given the time era.

They did say they will make the code open, so hopefully we'll see some servers put real pressure on jedi inflation like SoE was too scared to do.

It will be classic, set at publish 13, just before the Combat Upgrade.

But that is not now, and people coming through should be aware that what they are going to get is not a legitimate SWG classic experience, like we do with P1999. P1999, like SWG Emu, is still in development, but p1999 has Rogean/Nilbog that push for as close to a classic experience as possible while in development.

Secondary point, there will be server wipes to SWG Emu in the future, so don't get too attached to your stuff. :)

All around still enjoyable, but people do need to know that right now, it isn't complete, and unlike P1999's incomplete state, it isn't classic SWG incomplete, it is a very different monster altogether.

It is in development. So, not everything is done. The official "Launch" is just referring to when they finish developing the game. You can play it now while it is in development, like P1999 isn't technically done with development.

Uteunayr

Never played SWG really, but aren't there player created cities/outposts? That alone has me intrigued :)

There are. Players can place pre-styled houses of various sizes, number of floorplans, and type of house (small/medium/large, floorplan 1/2, naboo/coronet/tatooine style). Players can build a guild hall, a much larger house meant for creating and housing a guild. Guilds can also place down City Halls, and develop a player based city with most of the amenities of a regular town, with a few notable exceptions.

However, note that currently, most planets are full of cities, as every player can have 10 characters. For this reason, a single player is capable of maintaining their own city, and so the server is very packed in terms of cities. But, nevertheless, there is room to build a house, and you can even join some cities. Cities tend to want more players, as each character can declare 1 Residence, and if you declare Residence on a property in a town, then you can vote, and each vote the town mayor gets per election cycle (a month), is more Politician Experience for them, which lets them place down more advanced structures.

I have never played SWG. So with that in mind, how much of not having a classic experience affect my enjoyment of game?

In terms of the classic experience of SWG: If you want to play the combat game, you'll be fine and have a good time. If you want to be an entertainer, you'll be out-botted by people with AFK toons. If you want to be a Doctor, you can do so reasonably. If you want to be an Artisan, good fucking luck.

I have enjoyed my time in it, and it is definitely a game worth playing.

I'd be interested, but definitely not on that server. Sounds like shit. Would only go if it were like it was in it's prime with people who care about the quality and health of the server to the same extent that Bog, Rog and friends do here. Completely deters me from caring to play on that server just hearing all of that nonsense.
