View Full Version : Connecting from China?

So my girlfriend is playing P99 from the Lianyunyang(?) province in China. She's teaching abroad, and I've been playing Project 1999 not just for conventional nostalgia gaming, but to keep in touch with her and so that we can play games together.

Everything was fine until this most recent patch. Now she can't connect at all. She can see the server list and everything, but if she tries to connect to P1999, it boots her back to the server select screen with a "patcher issues" or something message (I'll try to get the exact wording).

I'm not saying the recent patch is the issue by any means, I'm just trying to narrow down her problem so I can try to fix it. Is there anything in the patch that would prevent someone in China from being able to connect? Are Chinese IPs normally blocked?

Any assistance would be much appreciated, thank you.

Used to play with a friend from china, about a year ago they blocked EQ, at least EQLive, and in order to log in from then on he had to use a VPN. Would try that first.

FWIW, I have become friends with a bunch of Chinese players on this server (since I can play while I work third shift and it's a 12 hour difference there). They've been playing since the latest patch, I'll ask them if they have to do anything special. I'm pretty sure they don't, though.

Thank you. I'd appreciate it.

The latest patch affected people with round robin outbound connections/proxies/isp's. PM me an account name and I'll see if this is affecting you.

I did ask them last night - they said they didn't have to do anything differently, for what that is worth. Sounds like Rogean has an answer though.

Yeah, not sure how to solve this one, other than have her get a new ISP. Her IP address keeps changing periodically. Not sure why they do that. Should I have her look at Proxy Servers or VPNs or something?

If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
