Not a premature Valentine's thread lol...I was quite unlucky on Monday riding on my motorbike and having a car collide with me. It knocked me unconscious, I fractured my collar bone, cracked a few ribs and have been in a lot of pain for most of the week (and haven't been able to do much in front of my laptop :p). The doctor said I was lucky it wasn't a lot worse or fatal (fatal was melodramatic I think), and I don't remember the accident itself, just waking up in the middle of the road with a couple of paramedics crouched over me :/

So this weekend call your family if you haven't spoken to them in a while, make time for those around you and remind everyone you love how much they mean to you...who knows when something unexpected could happen.

If I had a dollar for every motorcycle accident I've ran on, I would be a rich medic. Just don't do it

Good to hear you're doing better Swish. I lost a good friend a couple years back similarly - he had wiped out on his motorcycle - they put a plate in his skull and all kinds of surgery but in the long run he just didn't make it. When I hear of others having similar accidents it reminds me of that horrific accident. May God bless you and give you a swift recovery.

Glad you alright swish. Ive had 3 friends die in motorcycle accidents(2 of the 3 were their fault). I'll never get on one personally.

Yep, I sold all my motorcycles after my friend got T-boned by a lady on her cell phone.

If I lived in the middle of nowhere maybe but not here, too many clueless drivers.

Try to tell a climber not to climb. Tell a flyer not to fly. Tell a biker not to bike...

Let the make their own choice. Some people were born to live on the edge. There're no guarantees in life. Swish's advice can apply to anybody anywhere because anyone's number can come up tomorrow. Some people have a higher risk of their number coming up, but who wants to live in a world where we all experience the exact same risk? What would we be clones? Robots? Prisoners? No thanks.

Pain is no fun. Get well Swish.

Get better soon sir. Lost count of how many retards merged into me on the freeway while riding my various bikes. Gave me a good excuse to speed however to keep that "safety" bubble around me.

What kind of bike if I might ask?

Damn I can deffinetly relate with your message here swish, in more ways than one.

Not going to sit here and trade RL crash or RL death stories but I will say one thing...life is sooo short. Cherish every second of the day you spend with your loved ones because there will be a time when they're gone, and it really sucks when they are and you left things unsaid or never told them how much they mean to you.

Sorry to hear your hurting right now swish, hope you have a speedy recovery. Also, don't overdo the painkillers..try to tough it out after the first few days. Addiction to painkillers sucks more than suffering through pain, in my opinion.

Hi Swish. I'm sorry you got hurt and I wish you a speedy recovery. Bikes scare the hell out of me, mostly because there are too many asshole drivers out there. I have a good friend from high school who was severely injured years ago when a drunk driver slammed into her and her boyfriend, who she was riding behind. He died. She ended up in a coma with a shattered pelvis, several months of hospitalization, a permanent limp, and will never be able to have children.

So did the driver get in trouble for any kind of negligence, or just a freak accident?

Thanks for the replies guys, had a session on my rogue earlier playing with one hand and it wasn't terrible :p

I only ride a 125cc Lexmoto Chinese bike (pictured above) but it was all I could afford after finishing uni, plans to upgrade my license and get a Yamaha R6 (pictured below) have been delayed for now at least :(

The driver who hit me is being prosecuted for "careless driving" which is lower than "dangerous driving" and thanks to the shitty British justice system likely means he'll have to just attend a course reminding him how to drive safely. Any compensation I get will be through his insurance but that's a ways off yet.

Part of me sees this as just being really unlucky and wanting to keep riding but my family think its a sign I should go back to a car

my friend Jennifer used to ride a bike... after a lot of her friends getting in accidents on their bikes, she says "its not a matter of IF you'll get into an accident on your motorcycle... its a matter of WHEN."

Swish - NOBODY tells you this, but IF YOU TAKE THE RECOMMENDED DOSE OF PAINKILLERS EAT LOTS OF FIBER OR TAKE STOOL SOFTENER PILLS

YOu will be pooping asphalt after a day or two on opiates. Just what you don't need when your insides are already bruised up. I mean it's so bad that if you were on your motorcycle again and someone were to honk at you and yell "Watch it ass-mangler", you couldn't argue because you will indeed be a self-harm ass-mangler.
Please, take care of your butthole.
And each other.

^^ that is true, verified by pharmakos.

get some stool softener or your shits are going to be straight up painful after a week on painkillers.

From a fellow rider, I wish you a speedy recovery Swish. Remember, there are 2 kinds of riders... those that have been down, and those that will go down. I've wrecked twice in the past, and one resulted in a broken arm, and the other was minor lowside. Either way, stay safe!

Yeah I found this out over the last 3=4 days or so, tried eating more fruit (not bananas) but no joy. One session in the bathroom reminded me of leveling a troll SK ;)

Yes, I'm taking something for it now... thanks for the heads up :D

Glad you weren't more seriously injured! I sold my motorcycle (old Suzuki GS 750) after the second time someone pulled out in front of me and I was forced to go off the road.

They are fun but soooooooooo dangerous! :(

Good luck Swish and get well soon.

When I had a bike I totally boggled at how invisible I seemed at times. People pulling out from a full stop, RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Lots of times. Its so wtf.

@radditsu: lol :D

@pharmakos: Getting better. I've got more movement in my right arm now, I can type on the keyboard with both hands and getting out of bed doesn't take 5 minutes of shimmy'ing (like going through the unopened door to the Hole) :D

The insurance folks have sorted me out some free physiotherapy - I can't wave with my right arm yet but I can raise a cup of tea to my lips with it so there's improvements there.

Not being able to exercise has meant more EQ time, but I think I've put on 3kg in the last couple of weeks... gotta lose it when I can do some again.

PS - despite the danger I still want to get back on a motorbike...despite the fact that I could have broken an arm/leg or had a near fatal accident.

Is that crazy?

Sidelle
02-15-2014, 10:25 PM
Maybe a tiny bit crazy but you can't spend your life not doing the things you love. On the other hand you could be killed next time because most people drive like idiots. If you get back on the bike just be careful.

Glad to hear you are improving.:)

I wish you well, man. I know what it's like to be in a bad car accident, I was hit by a drunk driver in 2009 and suffered significant injury.

Really sucks, but I'm glad you're alright and wish you well in recovery.

Only thing you can do is drive defensively to an extent and pray lady luck is with you... but than again there's people who risk their lives over dumber shit than just simply taking joy in their life.

GL on your swift recovery Swish. I always scan for bikes/pedestrians/other vehicles, heads on a swivel. But no one is perfect.
