View Full Version : Biggest fight in EVE Online's history went down today
Millburn

I was stuck in that fucking system for nearly 13 hours today.
Estimated losses are 13 trillion ISK, which is roughly equivalent to $350,000 USD
That would make it the most expensive fight in EVE Online's history, second closest being well under half that value exactly a year ago to this day. What a day it has been... Pandemic Legion alt corp forgot to pay the bills in the B-R system and dropped sovereignty, which baited the Goons to come contest. First time we legitimately got our Slowcat fleets trumped. We also lost a lot more Titans than the CFC but at least we're in a way better position to replace them.
So now the goons have control of what used to be PL's staging system right near our home system. If anything maybe local chat won't be so boring anymore having some Goontards dropping by.

also this isn't over yet, it's going to last until downtime (around 7am est, tuesday morning) and started around 2pm est monday
here is a blue cfc screenshot. everything blue and purple is friendly, and is either cfc or the russian bloc. whoever took the earlier screenshot had awful standings so it didn't really show the different alliances involved

Yeah someone explain what im looking at in these screenshots, i know nothing about eve and it looks like just a clusterfuck of dots around a few space ships.
The dots are normal-sized spaceships (well I guess a lot of them are drone-type things launched by players, also). The ones you can actually see are bigass capital ships.
yevea
01-28-2014, 11:51 AM
So those screenshots are showing Brackets, which are those colored squares. They indicate a ship, and are colored based on how your alliance / you have opposing alliances set. Because space is dark and whatever, it'd be impossible to navigate or see where targets are without brackets. Normally you'd see things like this.. (note this is a completely unrelated fight)
http://i.imgur.com/9vpzqWE.png
In this screenshot, the Grey brackets are hostile to us, and our fleet (the purple brackets) are bombing them. (bye bye talwar fleet)
The screenshots are accurate, and so are you, in saying it just looks like a clusterfuck. This is a fight where over 2,000 people are in a single system (a zone) all fighting at the same location. The second screenshot I posted in my first page post is intended to just be confusing as fuck. Someone took a screenshot of a cluster of drones, of which each capital ship has 10, and a regular ship has 5, so there are an endless amount of them, basically.

in a large scale 2000+ person fight, yeah. Unless you zoom in to your ship.
http://i.imgur.com/W53Yipa.jpg
typically gang fights can be anywhere from 2-50 people, fleet battles around 250 on each side. capital fights will have a subcap fleet of 250 atleast per side, and then a fleet of 250 capitals per side or more.
it very quickly adds up and gets to be too much.

01-28-2014, 12:45 PM
again these are bad screenshots to give an impression of the game. this is the biggest fight in eve's 10 year long history, so it's really understandably confusing to see pictures of if you aren't familiar with what it is.
http://i.imgur.com/EdUEfMu.jpg
On the right is your 'Overview' it shows anything you want it to. Gates, ships, stations, NPCs. You basically play the game by clicking things in the overview 90% of the time.
Bottom middle are the modules your ship currently has fitted. Screenshot above is a cloaky cyno ship, so nothing really special to see.

I know we're just having good fun here but seriously, what's appealing about being in the CFC? If they complete the blue doughnut it's literally going to kill the game. That's what I fight against ya know? :P
Anywhoo though, yeah looking forward to slapping some Razor around, that's probably what I'm most salty about haha! I agree with you there. We've conquered too much space. those of us in GSF proper kinda wonder whats going to happen down the road. We now are blue with literally half the conquerable space in the game. I don't expect our Rusbloc or BL. blue status to last once n3 is gone, but that leaves us very limited areas of engagement. But no one wants the south east anyways.
I'm far from a diplomat, and terrible at my politics understanding. But once N3 is gone (yeah i keep saying gone, because well.. mittens has a serious vendetta after what you guys attempted in fountain) it's going to be a giant mystery who we get to shoot next.

PL is generally the ~elite pvp~ group, they see themselves as being better players than pretty much anyone else playing eve. They're also the strongest 4chan based eve alliance, so that explains a lot.

4chan / Kugu pretty much same thing.
PL definitely have a lot of bloated personalities, but they're straight up the funniest mother fuckers in the entire game. I don't know if you've ever flown with PL before but that's some of the most chill and fun fleets I've ever done in EVE. They're just there for the good fights. Besides all that though they have the time played and the assets to back up the fact that they think they're the best. Their AVERAGE pilot SP total is like 74 million SP's. That's across hundreds and hundreds of pilots. 74 Million SP is a large number.
yevea
01-28-2014, 05:05 PM
74m average is a bit insane. my aug 2012 character has 36m, and thats the most out of my accounts.
Have never flown with PL, i've been gsf since day 1. PL does do hilarious things from time to time, thats for damn sure. They are fun to fight against even if the only things they undock are caps during this war.

Millburn: I'm legitimately curious, how is n3 leadership spinning yesterday? Has the linemember realized how badly the scales just tipped or are you guys excited for the next escalation? CFC's position is fofofofofofofoffofo for the most part.
mittens just broadcasted: "Somehow I don't think we'll need to worry about a Titan escalation for at least a couple of months."
I'm curious to know how n3 is viewing the events that happened yesterday, and exactly what it means for the long term objective. cfc is full on knifetwisting mode right now, back to back fleets have been broadcasted for pretty much the entire morning.

I'm confused, how does it have real world value, do they mean they could sell it for money to nerd losers on the Internet or something?
yevea
01-28-2014, 07:22 PM
You can buy PLEX, which are monthly timecards using in game currency. All PLEX are originally bought using real world money, and can then be applied to a game account or sold. This, in effect, allows you to place value on eve currency since you have a representation of direct item to cash value.
PLEX are currently work around 600-650 million. A PLEX on amazon costs, 19.95. So using that, you can say 'it's worth x amount of USD'. The hull for a titan costs several billion, so you can easily apply "Oh well, if a plex is 600million, and it would cost about 7billion for this titan... it would cost "math" number of PLEX, therefore if someone was (russian) that obsessed with itnernet spaceships, they could buy afford to buy it by spending this much real world money."
That doesn't mean people are buying spaceships, but it is just a way people love reporting about eve because it's such a god damn time sink.

Also here is another cfc update.
"directorbot: We've been asked by CCP to offer an 'official CFC statement' about the B-R5 battle for an upcoming dev blog. Sadly, "get fucked" and ":condi:" were shot down as available options. So, here it is:
"The CFC offers the following as its official statement on the battle of B-R5, posted three weeks ago by Pandemic Legion member Richter Belmont."
"If at any given moment, N3 ping for all hands on dick supercarriers and capital ships, they will get more individual people in fleet than your entire coalition can combined on its very best day.
This isn't conjecture, this is something that has been proven again and again because your leaders like to bury their heads in the sand and ignore the game itself in favor of posting and posturing and writing tl;dr CEO updates about garbage that will never see the light of day (and if it does, the only place it will be is on the killboard of my alliance) instead of realizing that every capital and supercapital pilot with a pulse and a will to use their dread/super/titan/slowcat is gravitating towards one side because hey, guess what, that side actually DOES use their big toys on the regular and when push comes to shove as evidenced by the fight in DY- your alliance is literally impotent.
If a super 'fight' actually happens, it isn't going to be an actual fight, it is going to be a CFC gangrape hosted by Manny, Grath and Vince and you'll have no one to blame but your own leaders and FCs for being yes men faggots instead of growing a pair of balls and equipping some initiative.""

Okay so now that's out of the way, I'll give it to you straight. Who fucking cares? We lost Titans, big fucking whoop. Yes, that's a lot of ISK to lose and it's historical, it was a dicking of the century. Again...it's just Titans, we didn't even lose 10% of our Super fleet, which is our workhorse. Even if you did dick our Super fleet as well it wouldn't have been anywhere near enough to set us back. We have along with PL the most established renter system in the entire game. We can welp 750 supers each month and that's just breaking even. It really isn't a big deal. I mean for fuck sake, PL had 34 titans in holding that they handed out IMMEDIATELY after all was said and done as reimbursement, which is absolutely back shit insane.
There IS a big deal here though, and that's the fact that we have a locked system so close to our home. Yesterday was the quintessential good fight, and anybody in N3 or PL leadership will tell you it was good content and was just nice to be a part of. It sucks, but in the end that's what EVE is.
Prognosis? Looking forward to more good fights.

Good. That's what I was hoping to hear.
Also, 'spinning' wasn't necessary the best phrase to use there. It's expected that after a massive fight to have each side with their own 'well this is how that happened..' story differ from one another. I meant no slanderous tones with said 'spin' merely was curious to see how it was being handled, since CFC side is largely boasting of victory, and holyshit does the common goon enjoy a good smug. Back in the fountain war, it was hilarious reading the implosion of TEST. After ever major fight, their forums became extremely toxic.
I'm excited to see what happens next. Prior to lastnight, it's been a very big well lets see IF we can break their slowcats, and what happens when titans land on grid. I don't think we've had a single massacre of slowcat fleet once in this war up until lastnight. We usually are lucky to catch one or two.
Millburn
01-28-2014, 07:51 PM
Yeah that's probably the biggest actual victory of this whole thing is CFC/Rus finally breaking our slowcats. Everyone knew you guys had it in you, but it's a composition that requires you go balls deep to counter which the CFC hadn't been willing to do prior to yesterday. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I wonder how much more confident you guys will be.

I was actually going to add how odd it is that something that's so important to players of a particular game means nothing whatsoever to those who don't, like this is a big deal to EVE players and fans but means absolutely nothing to everyone else. The fact that it's being mentioned on news sites sort of throws that off though. It's still meaningless to just about everyone but it's gaining attention, however small, outside the game's community and even the greater gaming community at large.
It's still meaningless pixels with no real world value and you aren't going to hear about it on broadcast TV or cable news. It's not that big of a deal.

tl;dr one of the alliances involved is moving further away from the region the CFC are assaulting, but continuing to fight. They will be for awhile yet, but admit being weakened heavily by the outcome and need time to recover.
cfc response to the fight (nsfw probably)
http://b27.img-up.net/CFCSupersfe23e.gif
cfc is moving in, and will start endless siegefleets in a few days. Also supers / caps are coming too! Should be lots of good fights.
Also, sorry about the siegefleets, they're bout to get really annoying.
edit: siegefleets are a really dumb fleet comp that involves shooting structures in cloaky ships. Structure shooting is basically how wars are fought, and we use a method that involves minimal cost and risk while being capable of inflicting the most pain possible in a widespread area. It works well.
