Noob mage looking for gear advice.

I am a lvl 18 mage, I played eq before, but as a warrior, so I dont know much about mage gear or the class in general, I have about 320 plat saved up and just wondering if there is any noob mage gear that I should be looking for to help me out. I am still using the noob robes, and gear from random mobs.

Flowing black robes, 2 int rings, sheer bone mask, savant's cap, Stein of Moggok, Sacrificial Dagger/Black Tome with Silver Runes, etc, etc

focus items and malachites are they only thing that makes any significant difference on a mage.
