Bards are able to regenerate mana currently through the use of many songs / spells and effects (Manastone/Mod Rods) that are not classic (or current) for them.

No instant/duration spells/songs will give a bard mana. This includes necro twitches and mod rods. Thus, a manastone will not give a bard any mana."

Add meditating to the list that is currently helping bard mana regen but that shouldn't.

Flowing Thought was the original name for Mana Regen, back before everything got dumbed down so people would stop arguing over how many haste or how many regen or how much attack an item gave.

Back before this, Mana Regen was called Flowing Thought, I to V. It stacked to 20 originally.
Why do HP Regen and Attack Rating always come in a 1:5 ratio? Because there was an effect called Aura of Battle (worn and spell version) that was 2 hp/tick regen and 10 attack rating. They changed all of this later on to make it easier for folks to figure out.

To make Bards as classic as possible, you need to take away the non-classic things that give them an advantage as well as give them the classic things that do the same. Basically, if you're bitching about Bards not being classic because they can't swarm kite or whatever, you have to bitch equally about Bards being able to use clarity.

Don't forget to reduce the mana cost of SBB when these changes occur, as it was slowly increased from the original mana cost of 20/cast to 60/cast to cope with an increased ability to regen mana - own songs, clarity, etc,etc...
