Well here it goes. I heard about Project 1999 through word of mouth and thought to myself hmmm why not, EQ was my favorite MMO to date let's give that a shot. So I did...
Well at first all was good, the community was great and in fact for the most part still is, with the exception of those who for some reason have to take their shortcomings in RL and implement it into a game. You know who you are, and we know who you are.
So I decided to make a Mage having fun leveling up meeting new people all rolling smooth then the 50's hit and I started to see why this server is failing.
IMO its failing because of lost "motivation". You see I was excited to do things on EQ I never experienced back on live for example being able to get my epic, do raid mobs ect... but when I realized this was more of a dream than reality I had to step back and decide is this for me? So I decided to log on blue and for the first time I am experiencing that original EQ nostalgia.
Now I understand this is a PVP server and in all reality it should be "let the best man win" HOWEVER when you have only 120 people (lets be honest I see people "boxing" all the time) why is it allowed for one guild to have complete control of the server? if the population was greater then yes by all means free for all may the best man win. But for new people they level and they either app to a certain guild, move to blue or quit all together.
What we really need is a way to Boost population, Yes, yes variance and taking down the tyrant is good great grand and all but the main problem here is Population.
We really need to focus on ideas to make this a better & more fun environment for new players. We really need to think of ways to increase population. Hold events, Hell even the players could do this in game by holding fun events with gear giveaways or a certain top end guild could do the same for example sharing a dragon or 2? there will still be pvp but in the end if we all just worked together and stopped acting like ass hats I truly believe this server would grow in population.
You see once you get up to 52 it stops being PVP and becomes target practice with almost 0 hope to improve your gear to compete. When you are 52 in mediocre gear and a 60 can just whack you once resist everything and loot and now make you scoot, well that's just no fun at all. So how do you fix this you move on to another server the sad broken record of red from what I can tell has been happening for a long time.
So unless YOU THE PLAYERS can come together and make some sort of agreement to get along for a brief period of time and let some of the new players get those crumbs this server is destined to fail and eventually shuts down.
Now I cant see the figures but obviously this cost money, I have donated myself. But I would almost bet that certain people have donated more and probably lots more what happens if they quit? and flat out are just tired with the game? server ceases to exist especially with only 100 people. So growing the population not only gives everyone a chance at some "dragons/Raid mobs", Epics and the ability to do Trade skills effectively in a sense it also will safeguard the server from eventual and most likely inevitable shut down.
think about it. And make it happen so I can get my damn epic already.
and incase you haven't seen it

Clearly big things happening on blue as well regarding almost the same issue but the difference here is the GM's are giving the players the responsibility to make it happen, with a bit of motivation of course.
why this doesn't happen here? I couldn't tell you.
