Right now the xp bonus is necessary because there's no one to group with and to alleviate time spent watching paint dry solo'ing with no one else anywhere to be found.

Solo'ing in EQ is fine by my standard, but when the zone you're in and every zone connected is empty... not good.

XP boost being not classic is fine to offset the population murder at the hands of other non-classic features running people off.

Make resists matter (and risk/reward for wearing the now POWERFUL resist gear in this system). End root spam based PvP. Make it 4 lvls. Make it classic.

Eh the character I'm playing right now is 50. I probably won't log back in unless there is an exp bonus again. I understand why no exp bonus is fun for those that get a lot of time to play but I don't. I end up soloing 100% of my leveling time on here and classic exp bores me at this point.

I could easily avoid populated spots with bored level 60 griefers and level solo in some corner of the game but it doesn't sound worth it right now.

In in attempt to maybe try to have rational discussion on this I will keep this post constructive...

There is a very big difference between starting on a fresh server with everyone else and coming in 2 years down the road and trying to start new. The population is a lot lower, and what players are active are typically already at or near the max level. EQ has always been top heavy in terms of level distribution, take an emu server that has been out 2+ years and it is far worse. Make it a classic/kunark only server and it gets even worse.

People will quit over time, it's just a fact. Even the die hards will leave eventually. The only way to sustain the server would be to have new players coming in at the same/greater rate than the people leaving.

It hurts everyone if the experience bonus is removed, even those people who had to walk uphill both ways in 30 feet of snow to level. It hurts the server. Population is on the rise. We have a second guild doing somewhat meaningful things for the first time in months. Things are trending positively and all the spiteful, asshole trolls want to do is ruin any progress made.

And the whole attitude that you were a tough guy like back in the day because you leveled up with PVP exp loss or without a bonus just gets old. Stop pretending it was "classic" because it wasn't. I don't remember MQing in classic, or a wiki with detailed info on every mob in the game. Or literally a decade of build up knowledge on how to exploit mechanics. Everyone has had it easier than classic, so give that stupid argument up.

So the last couple months my wife has been reluctant to play. She is burned out on her druid, and her shaman was nearly ten levels behind my chanter. In addition, the myriad of MMO's she has played since quitting EQ in the early 2000's (e.g., Aion, SWTOR, AoC, etc) has really spoiled her when it comes to the rate you gain levels / XP when compared to classic EQ. The recent XP bonus really made a difference in her attitude towards logging on since, in her own words, "I can actually see my xp bar move!" Now she is only 3.2 levels behind me and has been actually asking me if I want to play (like she needs to ask...).

With any luck, the recent XP boost has reduced the level gap between us and renewed her interest in playing enough so that she continues to play more. Dunno, time will tell. However, just seeing the difference it has made in her desire to play, I can't help but think the XP boost helped the server population overall, but I am not sure if making the XP boost permanent would help attract new / old players or just result in larger twink armies.

Having a hard grind to 60 favors the integrity of the sever population and prevents people from being as careless about losing characters. Unfortunately most of us have jobs/wives/kids/rl and can't devote the time to level and grind and keep it interesting.

I was going to try and play again hearing about the exp but definitely will not log in again until another boost is back.

That is a ridiculous overexaggeration. I play casually for the most part, probably 10-15 hours a week and I'm level 52 doing almost nothing but solo exp. I have about 4 days played at 52 and I've leveled very efficiently for the most part - aside from doing a few hours here and there of HG plat farming and a few hours spent getting my epic quest done up through black fur boots I've been pretty much non stop grinding in pretty good areas. In the interest of full disclosure, I started doing paw entrance/aviaks in SK in my 20s through about 32 then moved to Cynthia in RM, then on to specs all the way until level 51. I barely moved during that time aside from gating to the bank to sell scythes and a 2 minute run back once an hour. Now I'm in CoM getting pk'd a lot but managing solid exp and epic report drops. I'm not twinked, but have been powerleveled 2-3 levels (35 and 40 and 49) by a friend. I'm a very efficient solo class (shaman) as well.

My point being that I took what I consider to be a pretty efficient route to leveling on a good solo leveling class. I hardly ever died or had pvp up through 50. Maybe 10% tops of my play time was spent doing anything but staring at a mob ticking down to death from dots. And still at 4 days played with a lot of it over the last month with the exp bonuses enabled I'm level 52.

I'd estimate to get to 60 in 3 weeks without powerleveling/twinking/premade groups (i.e. someone new to the server) you're talking about time investment that exceeds a typical full time job, so you are by definition not casual at that point. You're probably looking at 10-11 days played, which would 3-4 days played a week or about 12 hours a day, every day, for 3 weeks straight. A casual player at 10 hours a week is still going to take 6 months WITH experience bonuses to hit 60.

I realize I just spent way too much time replying to a troll post but I thought I'd actually throw some realistic scenarios out there in case anyone who matters is actually reading this.

This is undeniable PROOF that exp bonus is ruining the server and causing the problems. The exp bonus causes players to do everything possible to stay alone and secluded. No one groups, no one has fun, no one PVPs mid levels. Rogean decided he didn't want anymore CALL OF EVERQUEST and removed the exp bonus. Level 52 by a casual in a few weeks barely playing, never pvping, only grinding alone. How fucking sad/pathetic! How can you claim there are MORE people playing when these players just grind alone?

With the exp bonus gone we can finally get the JOURNEY OF EVERQUEST like it was meant to be: classic as FUCK exp! Nerp not true. Nilbog's been super accommodating. Some work has been done and is pending patch, but any lack of progress has been because I've been slacking the last month with RL stuff (changing jobs, moving cross country, kid incoming, etc.)

IMO: (no one cares) with exp bonus: I would log in, ignore my wife, kite in BW, fight people out of BW (pvp on a pvp server) get killed, ignore wife more, exp more, have fun, pvp a bit more, exp and log happy.

without exp bonus: Kite, look at my exp bar... log off... hang out with wife...

Conclusion:

XP Bonus: good for box...

No XP Bonus: good for RL....

I'll take XP bonus any day.... immersion.
