Shaman Item I Never Knew I Needed: Shovel of Ponz

So this is probably old news to a lot of people, but since I just learned about it I wanted to share with any other Shaman out there who were similarly in the dark. A friend of mine helped me get a wonderful item the other day: behold the Shovel of Ponz (http://wiki.project1999.com/Shovel_of_Ponz).

Why is this item so great for Shaman? Well, in short it lets you have a higher level pet, because it lets you cast (from inventory) a spell which kills your pet and returns the mana you used to cast it. So, instead of having to play with a green-con dogdog you just shovel him and recast a (hopefully) higher level pet. If you get another green dogdog you can keep repeating this (as long as you have patience to wait for your pet spell timer to repop) until you finally get a decent level pet.

Yeah its great if you summon a pet and then have to zone because of a train or something, you get that med time back instantly!

Necros do get the spell "reclaim energy" though. Same thing. Takes a gem slot but saves you from having to farm a shovel/stein/torch/broom and whatever other items are needed for the quest.

Shovel of ponz (or any reclaim energy click) is also great for buffing while remaining idle in town. Most of your pets (if they're appropriate level) will return 20-30% mana if clicked from max health. What I typically do before logging for the night is form babby pet, sell or bank (medding in the process which will usually get me to 100), buff hp/sta/regen, reclaim then log. Let's me get my grind on right from the get-go.

Its also a huge mana reserve when grouping, if there's some initial downtime to med/canni back the mana cost.

Just so we're all on the same page, broom > shovel > torch > stein. Broom of Trilon is the focus item master race as it's both powerful and practical.

the gargoyles outside of the castle in mistmoore almost never drop the eyes... the two just inside the castle entrance drop them a lot more often. (still an uncommon drop tho)

I've MQd every single Mage focus items to a level 1 mage of mine. The quest turnins work at level 1.
Nice little boost of XP and a powerful pet at level 4.

iksar shaman here, turned mine in with 0 faction work. provided you somehow didnt butcher your faction to begin with

Might also be able to buy garg eye from the merchant at the Ranger Station
in LFay or from the druid at the druid ring in SF if you don't want to farm
one yourself.

Oh god that'd be funny, especially since you gain mana back based on the current HP of your pet. Charm, Reclaim, Bam full mana. Some big bad in your way that's too high to reliably charm? Dictate and reclaim it!

Want to just piss off a raid guild? Dictate VS and reclaim em!

Be wary, I didn't get my shovel identified, I think I turned in the wrong shovel Vira ate my items =/ indifferent ogre rallos zek, consult your local caster.

Only really worth it for shaman pets because your higher level pets actually cost something to cast.

Although beneficial from a chain casting perspective, enchanter pets cost like no mana to bring up.

why does shovel work for non-mag with any slot/can equip status, but say mask of deception is any slot/can equip and that does not work for anyone but rogue/bard

wondering if other classes can use the mage item: Earthen Boots that has the invis vs. animals effects that will insta kill pet/break charm? Can anyone back this up?

thats why i was asking, i have the whole MQ for earthen boots i was gonna MQ to my enchanter but then found out that any slot/can equip typically means that only if you can equip it it can be cast from any slot

Does the reclaim depend on the HP of ur pet or do I get the full mana back from a pet who is about to die? I haven't tested this yet.
