There have been so many threads about suggestions for Teams99, about how to implement this and that, should we have item loot, faction loss, etc, etc, but I feel as a community we are really losing a grasp of the important things.
-The top item of importance is a timeline. Even if the devs create a kick ass server, which I have no doubt they will, if the server releases one year from now, who will the target audience be? You will have lost your players who will be playing, or at least trying EQ Next. You will have lost your current Red99 AND Blue99 player base who will be indulging in Velious. Yes, we don't want to rush things too quickly, but IMO there needs to be a higher sense of urgency to retain players now, get them hooked now rather than later. If we wait for later, even the devs will probably be on EQN.
-The second item of importance is simplicity. Why do we need to reinvent the wheel with this new server? I've heard much talk about some custom ideas that may enhance gameplay, but if those ideas take away from EQ's classic feel, then what's the difference between R99 and LoZ? Yes, you can make custom teams, Kings & Bandits did the same thing and the server was fun for a few months then died out. Yes, you can make an item drop be a randomly generated item with a 50% chance to drop from X bag, but once again your reinventing a wheel that is perfectly fine the way it is. If the general population is so bent on item loot then make it only droppable gear with whatever you don't bag is up for grabs. Bam, done, simple with no need for new code. What i'm getting at is we want Red99 re-released with teams enabled. The xp rate is already much better, many pvp bugs are fixed, just let us play on a new server that is already certainly playable. No server will be perfect, hell look at how many fixes/changes EQ has done over the years.
-The third item of importance is communication. This idea goes hand in hand with a beta server being released ASAP. There are so many players willing to help out, test things, give feedback, but we need somewhere to do this. Dedicate a separate part of the forum for beta testing and reward those that participate in beta testing. Perhaps add a silly in game title like "The Tester," lol. Or whatever... It really doesn't matter, but there needs to be more direct form of communication instead of an endless amount of threads saying, "I like item loot, I don't like item loot, any one who doesn't like item loot should stay on blue... etc"'
-The fourth item of importance is the xp rate. This is a much more simple matter and should be left the way it is currently, or even enhanced on Teams99. We want a server that will be much easier to get levels, a server that 300-400 of the population won't quit within 2-3 weeks due to being stuck at lvl 30. You would much rather have 100 or so players quit after 3-4 weeks being lvl 50 and enjoying end game pvp then quitting much sooner with much higher numbers due to being stuck at low-mid game.
Thanks so much for all you devs do... If you take only one thing out of this, please consider a beta server asap with a Teams deadline/launch of the new year. Maybe that's a high bar to set but with every one's help I'm sure it's feasible.
