We need to know in advance what team Nihilum will roll, so we know to roll the other teams instead. Thank you.
When normal people realize they are in the team with most nihilum players, they will ragequit.

You can't force them to tell you ahead of time but since half the server is in the guild you can probably get that info pretty easily. Worst case scenario you will know day 1 of the server opening and you can just remake if you don't want to be on the same team.

I see it more as people want to know what team we will be on so they know what the winning side will be...

I think it all depends on the merger details. If they are very restricting, don't be surprised to see Nihilum members end up in all teams. If they decide you can't do anything to modify your Red99 character's race/class/deity choices, and you are forced to choose between going along with Nihilum or having access to your current ultra-geared toons, I think we'll see plenty of people say "I'd rather not lose the pixels" and strike out on their own.

Can you really win in eq? Or is it just a way to kill the clock until the timer expires?

Either way, lemme know so I don't have to take a steel wool shower because I was killing bats next to you lot and have to reroll.

Once teams are announced we will have 9-12 months to adjust. It wont be hard since we should be 6+ months into Velious before the merger.
If we choose a team without Paladins then all of our paladins will just remake and regear in Velious as something else in preparation for teams. Not a big deal considering almost all gear gets replaced in velious.

I'm going to go out and a limb and say they haven't decided yet, because we don't even know what the teams are.
nihilum would never be the good team. it's just too counter to the cool doodness

Nihilum will be all 3 teams. No one will be safe.

While this is true, it's not absolute. I've lead a number of guilds across multiple titles, and specifically dealt with the transferring of an entire guild to another server. No matter how loyal the membership claims to be there will always be some that either do not follow you to the new destination or decide that during the transition is the best time to do something new.
I'm sure a lot of your core group will stay intact, but I'm not going to be shocked when the former-nilly satellite groups show up on opposing teams to try and do it better. And this isn't a knock against your guild or leadership at all, it's just the way people are.

Considering the teams aren't announced yet, but it is confirmed that there will be teams... How does Nihil know what team they will be on?

May not even be a merger. Teams may be a brand new server that even starts pre-Kunark. I don't want want it to start pre-Kunark but that's not my call.

Yes, there may not end up being a merger. However, for the time being all we can do is work with the information we're given, and the only information we have is that 1) Rogean doesn't want to operate three servers and 2) It's likely the less popular box gets folded into the more popular.
And c'mon Sparkle, classic is fun! Especially on a Red server. All the most obnoxious classic problems (overcrowding at the camp you want, waiting with nothing to do, annoying people you have to deal with) can be solved with PvP.

Fix red first, then do teams
This.
For the sake of science, one can not run two experiments at the same time with conflicting variables. Once red is fixed and velious is underway, revisit teams. Until then, its just trolling the red server for something that will be out next summer.

Well this is in the sticky thread, no mention about "if" more of a "how we do it when it happens". That's me interpreting though.
Merge Rules
Determine rules for T99 into R99 (names)
Determine rules for R99 into T99 (names, teams, gear, etc.)

Oh it's fun, but I'd find it highly annoying that I can't make an iksar or go to Kunark or Velious when I know there's no reason for it other than wanting to artificially delay them.
I'd rather the server be treated like it was released in a classic post-Velious era with all content from both expansions available from day 1, because well it will be released then, assuming Velious comes first. New servers used to be launched with all expansions available up to that time. No time line progression servers. Sullon Zek had everything available from day 1. You didn't have to wait a year for Kunark and then another eight months for Velious so that SZ could pretend it was launched in 1999.

Any serious guild will have a full guild for every alliance so that they can camp stuff in their enemies HQ without having to PVP. Doy.
