Hey guys,
I played EQ briefly about 12 years ago. I liked it but was more into the pace of D2 at the time. I've played most MMORPGs since then at different points. The vast majority I play for a few hours and quit. I decided to give EQ a go again because I love the camping certain mobs for certain loot/exp system.
I started a human paladin mostly because I read it'd take forever to get from Erudin to Freeport. I plan on sort of bumbling my way through the game and bugging all of you for advice.;)
Hi and welcome. It certainly would not take forever to get from Erudin to Freeport - all you would need to do is go to Toxxulia Forest, use "/who all druid 39 60" and "/who all wizard 39 60" to find people who can teleport, and ask nicely.

The forum is full of people who'll be able to help... just ask, or search the forum for a related mob/quest and see if its been answered already :p ...and welcome! :)

Yep welcome. If transport or a community is something you need, I specialize in both of those things, I usually play Stembolt, feel free to friend me and msg when I'm online.

why would an erudite pally want to go to freeport?
much better for them to hop on a boat to qeynos and level up there
there is a quest which is fantastic for newbies. kill rabid wolves (there are 2, level 3 and level 5) loot the pelts, and hand them in to the temple of life in qeynos. 2pp per pelt. at level 8 there is a bear as well. that also gives 2pp for the quest anda spell that's sells for 1p8g
I leveled a pally up from 1-12 exclusively on handing in wolf and bear pelts and made over 500pp in the process
p.s. with xp bonus that's in effect you will make less than that for the same leveling

That and Blackburrow fangs. Collect, trade in at Qeynos, all the way up to level 20. :)

No competition for the rabid wolves and bear too. Well, unless I am on one of my alts, then they are camped!

The only benefit I can think of to leveling in the FP area over the Qeynos area is proximity to the EC tunnel.

Thanks guys.
I figured a pally would be better off in FP looking for groups while soloing. There's also the added benefit of getting buffed on west freeport/ec. Having EC to sell stuff would make acquiring gear alot easier wouldn't it?

Sure, but you can do this with any race/class combination (a little tougher with iksars, but that's about it).

Welcome aboard. Either zone is going to be good XP. I think low levels are a lot more fun than even level 60 other than loot. :p

I would try qeynos out if I were you! The thing about leveling in ec is that there is really no way of making any money. So sure, you can buy gear.. But without any cash that's not going to be a very valuble resource to you. Qeynos is the best leveling area in terms of exp and money making simply because of a few great quests. That way by the time you're around level 10-15 and gear becomes more important, you may actually have some decent cash! That and pally itens are cheap, so you could get some decdnt gear for 100-500pp

So far I'm level 4.5 and I've collected roughly 140 bone chips. I figure I'll save for something than can do some damage and hold aggro for grouping.

So I've hit level 5 and have 220 bone chips and a few pp. I'm thinking it might be time to move on from west freeport.
Should I try to find a decent spot in EC to level? I've seen a few red con mobs running around that frightened me.
As far as gear goes, should I grab a weapon now or search for a banded armor set?
Thanks all!

Rarely do people agree with me on this but if you know to avoid 1 Neriak guard, then Nektulos is a much better place to XP at level 5 (bears, wolves, etc) near the EC zone line area. Then if its uncamped at level 6 start thinking about the undead spire to the right as the zone opens out from the zoneline (its in a corner).
A weapon will obviously help, its up to you which order you want to do it in :)

I sold some bone chips and have 70 pp now. Skeles are green so I think my days of hunting them are over.
White Bears kick the crap out of me right now, so I'm stuck with the odd blue wolf or beetle. I was thinking about porting to BB or Qeynos.
