which of these would be better for a paladin leveling up? or are they roughly the same? if a BoF is so much better I will use it. But I hate the sound that a two handed staff weapon makes. that swishing sound sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Baton is technically better but not by much so I would use the Sword. It's worth using weapons that look better to you if the power difference is minimal, in which this case it is.

Use Baton + turn game sounds off and listen to Colbert Report in background = win+win!

Follow up question, is either Baton of Faith or Arbitor's Combine better than the ghoulbane 20-35 vs undead?

Solo unrest to 40 with a ghoulbane, win!

2 proc's per minute (@ 105 dex) is less than 6 dps, which is a lot less than the diff between Ghoulbane (15/34) and Baton of Faith (30/40).

But Ghoulbane's more fun and you can interrupt casters occasionally with bash, so Ghoulbane + Clay Guardian Shield when tanking and BoF when solo in Unrest.

The combine sword is going to be a minimal difference compared to BoF. If you add your Undead DD spells in between attacks, the additional mana from the Greatsword will out perform the BoF in the end. I use the Greatsword over BoF and without days and days of comparing DPS, you really won't tell the difference. I use the Greatsword because 600-900p is whatever when I get all that extra mana's.

Btw, at 35, Sword of the Morning is out dps'ing Greatsword, BoF, and my Wurmslayer.

Oh yeah, the extra mana is nuts against undead. That's what I was gonna say.
