Man I have no faith in Brad anymore...but I'll still give him my money. I feel like he's one of the last people out there that has the potential. I have no choice damnit!

Big things? Rofl, he's already spewing the same vague bullshit that he did when he started Vanguard.
Hope he got off the pills....

Can't fund a decent modern mmo via kickstarter. Just doesn't happen.
Takes 100-200 million dollars nowadays.

You can do it for much less now if you focus efforts correctly.
But I agree it will be hard to get the at least 50 million he will need. Brad has not proven he can effectively manage a large game project. Maybe he learned from his mistakes, but we will see.

Cant have a successfuly MMo these days without paid sub

He's made very clear that this is a niche mmo. The focus will be on difficulty. I don't think he's trying to develop the next wow killer.
If he actually goes through with it successfully, bunch of p99 nerds going to be on suicide watch.

Have to agree completely. This project is already doomed.

damn I was hoping EQNext was going to be what he is describing about this game...
Also, this is funny comment sum1 posted:
Not in a million years. I have no interest in anything McQuaid is involved in. Hopefulluy he doesn't ruin Kickstarter for everyone.

Subs are the way of the past. Its all about FTP + RMT now. Look at how all sub games minus WoW have transitioned to that marketing type. Alot more $$$ to be had in RMT

The games that have needed 100-200 million to create were the ones who spent tons of money on fluff like pro voice actors. None of the things they bought with their 200 million made the game any more immersive or enjoyable in the long run.
50m should do it, but in the long run they should have investors to secure the project so they don't have another Vanguard.

Big Knuckle with the breaking news. Brad made the greatest game ever created in any genre for $8m. He learned his lesson with Vanguard on counting on a publisher to have unlimited pockets. He made Vanguard, the second greatest MMO of all time. EQ Next is WoW with deformable terrain. Only Brad can make a true successor to EQ.

Just remake EQ and charge people's credit cards $0.25 every time they die. That's the death penalty.

Oh of course it'd be PvP. Causing some asshole to lose $10 because they fell asleep camping pixels is the best part of the game.
I will pk Brad again in the pvp testing.

I think the point of Kickstarter funds for an MMO is not to fund it but to attract venture capitalism and drive interest. That makes sense to me at least.

creating interest for initial investments and shit releases results in corporate profit
with the saps paving the way for a select few to get rich off a mmo
( you are the saps btw )
being interested in an mmo with a developer on board that made the game your still typing messages on a forum for does not make anyone a sap, it makes you a tomato farmer.

I really don't know why someone hasn't just remade EQ, thrown some Eve like elements into it, and let the damn thing run on low end hardware with quickly developed levels. Really could push out a level a month if it was making money and hire real artists after the initial release to overhaul it worst case scenario.
As long as the game played rock paper scissors and the elfs had boobs that weren't as gratuitous as the anime chicks in Lineage. But still enough to give these nerds raging hardons.
