I initially played everquest when it was first released, quit for a while, then came back sometime between Velious and Luclin. EQ was my first MMO, although I had played many a MUD. Honestly, I had very little idea of what I was doing and left the game with pretty mixed feelings. On the one hand, the game was very immersive but on the other it had quite a few elements that were extremely frustrating (particularly camping. I remember staying up all night camping a spot with a group only to have the target never spawn, spawn and not drop the item, or lose the roll.)
Anywho, I now that I've been playing MMOs for a good 14 years I figured I'd come back and see how the game felt with the benefit of experience, knowing now what I do about the genre. I like the idea of a more challenging, more immersive game.
The one thing that I am having trouble with is how clunky the game feels. The interface is quite different from what I remember, and while I expected movement to be slow I didn't remember the controls being nearly as clunky as they are. In most games I bind strafe to A and D and turn using the mouse, but in EQ this seems impossible because even at 100% the mouselook is glacial.
Are there any obvious things that I am missing that make the gameplay smoother?
