1st time running EQ

Installed today, waited for server up, started game, logged in to the P99 server, screen went black, the music swelled grandly as I hummed along, then...

Error: Windows Application Error

The instructions at 0x02791c6b referenced memory at 0x00000018. The memory could not be read.

So, went to the EQ folder, made sure all permissions were full, rechecked that files that needed to be deleted and/or replaced were, used the Launch Titanium icon I'm supposed to for the eqemu servers (obviously since I logged into p99).... what went wrong?

Using Windows 8, not 8.1, 64 bit. Laptop more than surpasses the requirements needed. Is there another folder I should reset permissions for?

can try going into your eqclient.ini file and setting the resolution to match your desktop.

1. Help! When I try to run eq, at some point before entering the game, I get an error that looks something like this:

This solution to this is actually very simple. Go to your EQ folder. Find the file eqclient.ini and open it in a text editor (i use notepad, its the simplest to use)

hit ctrl+f, type windowedwidth, you should see something like this:

WindowedWidth=1280
WindowedHeight=768
Width=1280
Height=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=1280
HeightWindowed=768


change it to this:

WindowedWidth=800
WindowedHeight=600
Width=800
Height=600
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
WidthWindowed=800
HeightWindowed=600

I'm using 800 x 600 here, but you may need to fiddle with that a bit. If 800 x 600 isnt working, try using your monitors native resolution instead. Eventually, you will get a combination that works, just keep trying.

Nope, didn't work.

Made sure windows mode was true and that all resolutions matched my monitor settings, not running dual monitors (on laptop).

even went back and set all resolutions to the basic 800x600... no workage :(

Got this figured out. Heads up to anybody who experiences this in the future, its Norton360. Just uninstall that garbage, as even creating exemptions for eqgame and running it as administrator does not work. Soon as I removed this and rebooted EQ and the emu launcher both work just fine.

Are you using Norton?

No, Norton is the bane of my existence, I don't let it get within 10 feet me. However, I think it might be a dual core problem. Just rebooted after setting it to 1 core and gonna give it a go.

Ok, reset the machine using only 1 core,didn't work. Downloaded the Win2 thing from Lavishsoft, created account, ran it, didn't work. eqini file has all windows stuff set to 800x600 and windows mode on. No AV currently running, only Kaspersky installed but it is off for the next 5 hours, even firewall is down just incase. All permissions set for EQ directory to full access.

You did install Titanium right? Not like Trilogy or any other expansion?

One solution:

It's the Windows Compatibility. Click on properties of the icon you're using to launch p1999 with and then compatibility. Make it to XP SP3. Check a box that says to run as admin.

Nope, installed Titanium... and sang the damn song the whole time which is still stuck in my head.

Installed CCleaner to see if HP Protecttools was installed, it's not, since that's been an issue in the past for some.

Still clueless at the moment :(

Is your EQ file directly off of C? If not, move it there. Use no spaces in the target line. You will need to adjust your shortcut, if you move the file.

so target line (shortcut) will be very similar to:

C:\eqp99\eqgame.exe patchme

Turns out i'm dumb. I forgot to run as administrator, fixed my issue.

Will add compatibility mode/admin note to FAQ, since I can't remember putting it in there already. Both absolutely need to be on to run EQ on pretty much every machine in existence right now.
