Shokazoba's cancellation from the Hampshire Halloween event Friday night at Hampshire College, after one band member said they were criticized of being "too white" to play Afrobeat music

The decision to cancel the band was made by the Hype Committee, which puts on Hampshire Halloween.

The Hype Committee wrote on its Facebook page on Oct. 24: "Due to concerned students voicing their opinions about the band Shokazoba, we held community dialogue to hear what individuals had to say. As a result of the dialogue, and discomfort expressed by members of the community in person as well as by email, Facebook, and other means, we have removed Shokazoba from the lineup for Hampshire Halloween."

Elaine Thomas, Hampshire College spokeswoman, said in a statement that the student organizers of Hampshire Halloween contracted with a number of bands, and that some students "questioned the selection of one band, asking whether it was a predominantly white Afrobeat band, and expressing their concerns about cultural appropriation and the need to respect marginalized cultures."

Getting there. Where I live is pretty much falling in the shitter because of the black people around. Just becoming a product of my surroundings. Between the shootings, robberies, and whatnot. Probably only 1 out of the last 100 violent crimes reported in the local news being done by a white person tends to affect one's outlook on life.

This doesn't mean I hate all black people. As the old saying goes: "I've got a couple black friends", but these are guys I work with, and even they have issues with people of their own race, with a favorite line amongst them being: "I like black people, but I hate ******s."

You think everyone is too dumb to make their own decisions so you want to put the worst kinds of people in power to make these decisions for you. I am all for local municipalities and counties doing what is is right for them. My big issue is with corporate level chicanery. Stuff local govt cant negotiate or work against. Insurance. Monopolization. Insurance. I work in a conservative city. With a conservative mayor. In a conservative state. My wife is a fucking Libertarian. I get good ideas. Small govt people need to realize some shit is to big for them to fix . People also need to realize trying to legislate social (Christian) law is the same shit as sand fuckers legislating sharia law. I do not need or want your values and my sundays ruined.

Govt: invest in things that work, give things a chance to work, cut things that do not or restructure. That should be your entire purview.

Liberals believe in the community spirit and helping others, a civilized, advanced society, etc, it is just taken too far and helping becomes controlling. You can't have that 32 ounce soda because of obesity. You need healthcare because you'll need it one day whether you admit it. You can no longer buy an AR-15 because of public safety, etc, etc.

Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, freedom from taxes and other people in your business. You live your life the way you want and I live mine the way I want. The problem here is that it turns into the inability of the government to step in when atrocities are committed by the wealthy or corporations because the EPA, FCC, FDA, etc all tell us how to live and that's a no no.

For Libs its all about you being one cog in the big machine and for Conservatives, it all about you being the only cog that runs the machine.

Most Libs and Conservatives mean well and have good intentions. Everyone just takes it too far. Libs become arrogant that their way is the only way and Cons become angry because you're either with them or against them.
