View Full Version : Plane of Growth: Tunare Challenge!

If anyone remembers the Tunare encounter in Growth feel free to pipe up. In the first bit of Velious the encounter was changed numerous times. For posterity, we'd like to collect as many as possible. I was non-kos in POG and roamed around a lot and played with Tunare quite a bit with gate.
1) Tunare, the 1 HP wonder...without loot
2) Tunare, the 1 HP wonder...with loot and a 10 minute respawn timer.
3) Tunare the Frightened! Would despawn if aggro'd and any mobs were left alive, then respawn when they were all dead, then despawn when the POG's spawned, and respawn with full health when they died again.
4) Tunare the Battle Maiden. No despawn at all, fight her in her tree, until everything in the zone warps on top of you.
5) Tunare, with 150% more zerg. Aggros with POGs, which aggros rest of zone. CHAARGE!
6) Tunare the Timid. Despawns when aggro'd and respawns outside the tree. Then respawns again instantly back in the treet.
7) Tiny Tunare. Shrunk to size of POM puppet, now immune to everything.
8) Tunare the Schizophrenic. When hailed, shouted about 'UNKNOWN ENTITY TYPE', despawned in the tree and spawned outside, then respawned in the tree leaving the ability to have dozens of copies outside.
9) Tunare the Cruel. Upon summoning her bear pet, she would immediately, turn, punch and kill the bear, then resummon.

Ugg forgot about tunare complexity and logistics
Bear puncher sounds like a real cunt.
Raid tunare had all mini bosses agro if they were up and those mini bosses would have all their minion types assist is all I can contribute, if I recall correctly..

i remember number 4 with such fond memories lol
The early fights I recall we could pull Tunare anywhere in the zone and she had that serious knockback going on, so we pulled her in that castle over on the south wall by the lake after clearing the rest of the zone. Didn't go so well, but was fun seeing 60 wolves attack her (they had the druids cast share wolf form as their contribution for the fight).
Later, post Luclin, we killed her in her rooted form out on the battlefield with ogre/troll walls to stop the knockback.
What about Tunare's Itemization? Using timeline or from Day Zero?

This is so foreign to me as I was a scrub in Velious era, was this like a constantly re-patched Tunare that changed at the whim of EQLive-devs or was it designed so that you never knew which one you were gonna get?
I've read a bit about PoG on the forums, and while I recall the special resist flowers, Kael (my favorite velious zone with Velks) etc etc, I never got to see any of this kind of stuff. So can anyone tell me, what was the deal? From an outside point of view, recreating such a 'fantastical' zone must be quite a ridiculous undertaking.

Resist flowers were plane of mischief. Thats the zone they probably having the most issues remaking.

Oh yea, like I said foreign.
Was that one released on launch and was PoG like a straightforward zone like PoF PoH PoS type of things? Tank n spank, keys and triggers.
Also curious. How well will the TMO 24/7 tracking model transition into Velious?
Aggroing Tunare did not technically aggro the rest of the Plane.
Aggroing Tunare caused almost all of the NPCs in the zone to path to a specific location - which is something different than aggro. Of course if they got there, they would then assist Tunare. You can confirm this is true by aggroing Tunare then FDing.
Retti_

If thats true then is it the rooted tunare causing mini bosses to run to rooted spot (and minions of mini bosses if mini boss of that type is up)?

Give the PoG's death touch. Put moar bixies in game. They also should be given death touch.
in seriousness, I never remember people not clearing the zone, not for armor drops but because of some mechanism of zone wide butthurt. It was not practical.
I also am not sure if she even was aggro?

The only one I remember was a giant one in the open. We would clear the entire zone and then engage her out in the open. I hardly remember her loot table or the encounter but i remember killing and tanking her from time time. I was 13 give me a break !
I'm not sure of the actual code on whether Tunare is calling the mini-bosses to a location and then the mini-bosses calling their minions.
What I do know is that if you aggro Tunare and then immediately FD, the vast majority of the zone will still path to her location - not just the minis.
The distinction between aggro and calling is pretty large though. Not to mention, it takes a very long time for the entire zone to reach that point. You're basically just temporarily interrupting their pathing by setting a destination. When the mobs do hit that destination, they path back to the spot where their original pathing was interrupted (provided that they do not proximity aggro someone).
I didn't kill her until Luclin though, so I'm not exactly sure how earlier incarnations of her functioned.
I should clarify - By earlier incarnations, I'm talking specifically about FoH's kill. Afterlife had killed the perma-rooted version.

Not sure which we'll go with, they all have benefits and detriments. The rooted level 70 version with knockback was stiff, but the pullable level 66 version had it's difficulties as well. Would be nice to get her difficulty on par with what it was 'at time', but with the limitations of the combat still I don't think that'll be possible.

No one really did, first few times she was killed she loaded no loot or the corpse poofed on death lol.
Version 4 was the 'real' first version, version 2 was 'kitable', version 3 was the one that spawned rooted in the field. Those will be the ones we'll decide between. But scripting some of the bugs like beating her bear to death might be fun.*

The one thing I remember about doing Tunare was having a boat load of ogres to block you when you got knock backed. Other than that, I don't remember her loot table or anything. I did this during Velious though, never waited until Luclin to kill her.

Yeah, I'm thinking one of 2 things:
1) Fist of Nature was originally 1hand blunt, but was changed to HtH with the post-Luclin patch that modified Tunare's table (adding recommended levels, MHT getting a BS mod, etc.)
2) Fist of Nature was added to Tunare's table with the post-Luclin patch that modified Tunare's table.

The "Fists" are Velious era but were tagged 1 Hand Blunt. However, I have not been able to locate a Pre-Luclin source on Fists of Nature.
There was an old bug report here (http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60714), that reversed the original weapon tags of "Hand to Hand" on the Plane of Sky weapons. That bug report seemed to indicate that there were no "Hand to Hand" weapons before Luclin, and that the items were "1 Hand Blunt". After looking around, I would have to agree that "Hand to Hand" was a Luclin+ modification to all the "Fist" weapons.
Whitened Trent Fist / Wu's Tranquil Fist / Wu's Fist of Mastery are already 1 Hand Blunt, based on the prior patch change.

Q: What Giants can I hit with Giant's Bane?
A: King Tormax, Vindicator, Velketor, Narandi.

Q: Do I need be in melee-range for banes?
A: No. Line of Sight is all you need.
(Minka Zaubermaus)
Q: Is the aggro generated by banes the same as for other direct damage spells?
A: No, it is lower than expected considering the damage. *NB* Giant's have very strange aggro so be careful baning them - they don't like it.

I know when we killed Tunare for the first time we pulled her to a zone wall, and took forever to kill. We had cleared the zone as much as we could, but we were getting respawns. Not too sure if we had a bard out getting agro to kite them off, just remember a few showing up mid fight, and off tanking or kiting them off.
I also know wizards were useless on her and we couldn't land anything. We all logged on twinked alts over wizards. Not sure about disease/poison resists.

Umm, if memory serves me right as a raiding monk at the time, Fist of Nature was definitely velious-era. Not sure how you would think it's not possible at 15/18 since Fist of Lightning was the same (albeit off-hand only and no HP stats, but has haste).
The fist of nature + fist of lightning combo was used for dual wielding dps (15/18 + 15/18) monks. You would also see Fist of Nature + Primal for those who didn't need the haste and preferred the stat boost on primal (also better for soloing due to Avatar buff).
I had the Baton of Flame (13/17) + Fist of Lightning (15/18) combo.
My brother had the Fist of Nature (15/18) + Primal (15/20) combo. (He used Brother Xave's Headband off of Vulak for haste so preferred stats on Primal). This was all during the Velious era, as he quit shortly after the Luclin released while I continued on to PoP. Of course, you can argue the point of my memory on that. Also, hand to hand weapons were only introduced during Luclin and so the weapons were all 1HB before that (retroactively changed later).
Of course, Fist of Nature was not on the original Tunare loot table. As I recall, her original loot table was either crap or nonexistent when FoH downed her about the same time that Legacy of Steel teamed up with another guild (can't recall name) to down AoW. As an aside, it's also about the same time Blood of the Spider on my server (The Rathe) did the first Sleeper awakening ever. I was 15 or 16 at the time so some details can't be recalled. Now I'm going off topic with this history lesson so I'll stop here.
Edit final note:
Fist of Lightning and Baton of Flame was also DEFINITELY velious-era, as I had them both since about level 55 and I hit 60 well before Luclin release (I recall the dawning realization of the grindfest that was AAs).
For someone who never played EQ when Tunare was around... why were we killing 'good' deities?
The evils could get their revenge for years of pillaging by the lights of Fear/Hate and slaying of their gods Cazic and Innoruuk, or loot.

The issue is not the stats on Fist of Nature, but rather that we can't find any evidence of it existing prior to Luclin. The fact that the first screenshots of it are also as a Hand to Hand item further suggest that it was likely added in during the revamp of Tunare/AoW loot.

I'm currently developing this zone, so any additional input is welcome.
The protector script I made works great.
I did have some initial issues with the mini bosses 'calling' particular npcs to an area without adding someone to their hatelist, but I like what I came up with.
Is there a certain amount of time the npcs waited after arriving to their summoner's area? i.e. keeper of the glades calls phase pumas. They path to the location he called them from. How long do they stay before pathing back? Right now I have it set to a few seconds.
edit: additions
Might as well add this here. As far as mini bosses who call npcs to them:
keeper of the glades - phase pumas
Rumbleroot - serene forest spirits
Treah Greenroot - sylvan protectors
Fayl Everstrong - entolling mobs
Odongo Bodongo - entolling mobs
Is that correct? I'm not sure about Odongo, but I saw it listed on one guide.
Is there a certain amount of time the npcs waited after arriving to their summoner's area? i.e. keeper of the glades calls phase pumas. They path to the location he called them from. How long do they stay before pathing back? Right now I have it set to a few seconds.
I touched upon this earlier, but they don't really stay at all - it's just setting a new temporary pathing position before they return to their old. I can maybe get around to FRAPSing this on live soon.
So I fooled around in PoGrowth for a bit.
Mechanically, this is how NPC calling works. I'll use Treah Greenroot as an example.
1) NPC is aggroed. It does a /shout To Signal it's respective underling NPCs.
ie Treah Greenroot shouts, "Sylvan protectors, the glades call for your aid!"
2) The respective underling NPCs then path to the location where Treah Greenroot /shouted. The NPCs do not have aggro when they are called, but when they reach the location, they will either assist their boss or proximity aggro players. The NPCs appear to walk rather than run to this location. This is really only relevant for Tunare since other NPCs will be pathing around the area with their minions, so walk speed is sufficient especially with SoW from roaming druids.
As Treah Greenroot is engaged, he will continue to /shout for help to update the location. The time between calls appears to be based on whether or not Treah is moving to new locations. When I am kiting Treah Greenroot around, the time between calls appears to be 7 seconds.
[Wed Oct 30 19:15:23 2013] Treah Greenroot shouts 'Sylvan protectors, the glades call for your aid!'
[Wed Oct 30 19:15:30 2013] Treah Greenroot shouts 'Sylvan protectors, the glades call for your aid!'
[Wed Oct 30 19:15:37 2013] Treah Greenroot shouts 'Sylvan protectors, the glades call for your aid!'
When I was engaged to Treah Greenroot and stayed within melee range, Treah Greenroot did not /shout beyond the first time.

[Wed Oct 30 19:14:26 2013] Treah Greenroot shouts 'Sylvan protectors, the glades call for your aid!'
3) The underling NPCs will path to the location where the /shout occurred. If unaggroed, the NPCs will stick around at the location for 50 seconds. (I originally thought they just pathed there and back, but I used /time with targetting rings to time how long individual protectors arrived/left). Even if the Boss NPC dies, the underlings will still path to the location of the shout.
If anyone wants to contest any of these individual points (or Nilbog needs more evidence), I have screenshots supporting individual points.

As Treah Greenroot is engaged, he will continue to /shout for help to update the location. The time between calls appears to be based on whether or not Treah is moving to new locations. When I am kiting Treah Greenroot around, the time between calls appears to be 7 seconds.
When I was engaged to Treah Greenroot and stayed within melee range, Treah Greenroot did not /shout beyond the first time.
Thanks. Edited scripts to allow the npcs to stay for 50 seconds and distance checks to happen every 7 seconds.

Last thing for PoG aside from random pathing is...
What implementation of Tunare? What loot, how long, etc.
More discussed is encouraged.

Tunare had no loot during Velious era
she should have no loot only bragging rites on P99
Tunare dropped no items during Velious

Zero day incarnation:
1) Tunare, the 1 HP wonder...without loot
per Aeolwind
First incarnation (non-rooted), sometime after Velious release up to 7-8 months in to coincide with first kill during Live (July 2001) (http://web.archive.org/web/20010809194733/http://www.noows.com/showthread.php?threadid=2719):
up to 2x PoG BPs/Robes
up to 2x Blade of the Swarm
maybe something else from her eventual drop list
maybe spells
Second incarnation (non-rooted or rooted), 10 months after Velious release to coincide with upgraded loot table and second guild to kill her on live (October 2001) (http://web.archive.org/web/20020324032612/http://afterlifeguild.org/):
up to 2x PoG BPs/Robes
Spells
up to 3 of the following in any combination:
Blade of the Swarm
Golden Leaf Earring
Braid of Golden Hair
Essence of Nature
Massive Heartwood Thorn
Sap Encrusted Branch
Petrified Heartwood Flamberge
Nature's Melody*
Girdle of Living Thorns*
*I would also add in Nature's Melody (actually has effect Song of the Deep Sea's, until Luclin (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7710)) and Girdle of Living Thorns to the second incarnation, even though I haven't found links evidencing their drops before Luclin based on their likeness to Siren Song and Dain Belt/NToV belts.
Third incarnation (rooted, final form), same loot as #2
Fist of Nature hasn't had any credible evidence brought forth that it existed before Luclin era, especially due to the nature of it being Hand-to-Hand, rather than 1HB like the Primal Fistwraps or the other monk only wraps in ToV, which were fixed to H2H after Luclin dropped.

the earliest *complete* version
early versions of Tunare were obviously "eh, we'll finish this later, lets just release the rest of the expansion now."
