Everquest Mac is Shutting down :(

Important Information Regarding EverQuest Mac™.
Along with many fallen heroes of Norrath, EverQuest Mac will now make its journey to Ethernere. It’s with heavy hearts that we announce EverQuest Mac will come to a close at 1*2:01 am PT on 1*1/18/13 when SOE shuts down the EverQuest Mac server.
We greatly appreciate all of the EverQuest Mac players who have adventured through Norrath with us over the years. We hope to see you online in the PC versions of our EverQuest Franchise games on SOE.com.

I'd been meaning to try that server out (whenever I got bored of P99), but I guess I'll never have the chance. On the upside though, I don't see myself getting bored here anytime soon :-)

From their shutdown FAQ: No new accounts will be allowed to play EverQuest: Macintosh Edition as of October 18, 2013.

That is unfortunate, I never did get much playtime in there but I am sad to see it go. Hopefully the line in the "FAQ" about fan operated servers is taken as a challenge by someone.

1) Someone advertise our emulator to these fine victims of SOE's declining profit margins.
2) Does this mean they will be using the EQMac Box for a different server?
3) Is anyone surprised? SoE makes the worst calls ever for their loyal fanbase. "Fix the EQs? More like make EQN, with more potential to make bank than EQ1 and EQ2 combined; not to mention that we'll cater to the MMO noobs and give CSR staff less to do, thus able to cut staff costs."

Maybe they won't screw this up. Lol.

EQMac has always been a nice resource to have in order to troubleshoot bugs and other development issues on the P99 side of things.

EQMac people know where to go if they want classic. It cost SOE money to keep EQMac alive, since it was free to play.

Well to be fair they did a pretty cool thing by keeping this server active for its fanbase, free of charge, for as long as they did. No profit has been made from EQMac for a long time.

Wish they'd kept the Planetside 1 servers open for longer...was a very sad time to see them go, and that was before F2P became the norm :(

I was just playing it like a month ago, maybe a little longer. Got an email saying they activated the account but the game was a ghost town. I had no idea that they shut it down, good thing I left it installed so i can keep a backup of the soundtrack lol.

I have been playing on it a long time. Trouble lately was there was nobody in the middle levels. And Bizaare prices where crazy for new people. So it ran a lot of them off. Too bad they are pulling the plug. But not surprising.

The need for a classic PoP server is greater than ever now. Wish I knew how to code as I would help develop it, oh well.
