Any old RZ players out there?

After discovering Nirgon was in MiM and doing some forum searches it appears there is a decent amount of old RZ players around.

I played RZ up until the SZ release on a bunch of different characters.

My main was an enchanter, Iien. But I also played a lot of a SK named Gabuk along with a friend of mine and used a cleric (Kinek) and druid (Kashue) occasionally but they were friends characters.

We rolled in tB (The Begotten) with guys like Zelnik, Reddogg, Narilka/Rienne/Nalear, etc. Did a lot of sabbat raiding and were a very active PVP guild.

On SZ I formed a guild called <Nine> with some RZers and later joined <Hate>. My bro and I shared a character named Votek.

Ah. I quit RZ in Velious, had sort of a blow up with some folks in tB over something I don't remember and lost access to my toon so I moved to SZ. Played that until PoP and quit after. The game really wasn't the same post Velious but I could handle it honestly up to PoP, even with all the ez mode crap from Luclin/PoP. Game really spiraled downward after that though.

The name Captarian definitely rings a bell. I remember fighting IE quite a bit in the Kunark era...there was a druid Mangor or something I used to royally f up all the time. Him and another dude found my bind spot in DL once and corpse camping me (no exp loss on RZ), and were so busy trash talking me they let me mem spells and I ended up killing them both while naked. Still one of my more fond EQ memories. Who was the enchanter guildleader guy I forget his name now...he was generally pretty solid in pvp.

Although looking back now I was insane for staying on that server for as long as I did; PVE is the way to go. Sadly though I was so young back then, I really stayed within my small bubble of friends, so I don't remember anyone of you guy's names lol. Then again, staying within your core friends on RZ wasn't such a bad thing :0

Yep, first level 60 beastlord on SZ! Was kinda funny Hate let us in with very little application process and let us start raiding at like level 54 because there wasn't another beastlord to give out buffs. Was rockin ssra temple and planar loot at like level 55! Was sort of a gimpy pvp class but the pet could keep people on lockdown with stun procs.

Any PVP focus guild went to war and allied several times. I saw someone post about it in another thread (I think Nirgon) but the unique aspect RZ had was it's politics. It was the only server with FFA pvp. Before the sabbat dissolved and AD came to power, there weren't any huge uberguilds. Lot's of small well organized ones that came together and elected a council, had a DKP system etc. It's really crazy when you think about it, I would literally be fighting a guild and an hour later at raid time we grouped up and killed some PVE content together.

The fact you could enforce policy was what made the server unique. I remember we were at war with some guild and the guild leader happened to be on the sabbat council. Well, enchanter PoH arms or something dropped and he awarded it to an ench in his guild instead of me when it was my turn. There were like 8 of us tB'ers there and we dropped raid and facerolled the 12 or 13 members of his guild up in Hate. Everyone else just stopped and watched because they knew it had to be done. Then we rezzed them back in and kept raiding. Last time that crap ever happened. :P

Team PVP on SZ was fun, definitely more PVP but a lot of it felt artificial. The only real reason I had to kill a dwarf paladin was the fact he was on the other team. Some very epic battles there for sure, and I'm looking forward to t99! I think my fondest memory of that server was when my guild Nine went to war with Infeste Nex because their teenage crap talking guild leader. I think the final kill count was like 130-4 in our favor after a week or two and in order to end the war we necro sac'd their guild leader down from level 60 to 55.

I'm a total carebear now though, but hopefully t99 will awaken my killer instinct!

Yep, if you got blacklisted it was a rough go the rest of the way. I think most of the high level people had PKer alts they hid. I had a couple lower level ones, Speedbump the scourge of misty thicket and Zigino gnome necromancer in a level 12-16ish guild we formed called The Gnombino's who were a bunch of gnomes with italian sounding names that terrorized the commonlands area.

I got plenty of PVP at the high end so never felt the need to level up a PK character to max level.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun though. We would gear them out with our mains even and kept the pk's at level 60 so we couldn't pvp with 65's. It was awesome fun though. We were the best geared pk's on the server. I do know that.

My favorite memory was when I was on Ashrael (wizard) and walked into KD from the wastes zone line. AD was prepping to kill king. there were like 50 of them sitting at the entrance. one of their twinks was there with a cof on. i walked in, nuked once and then manaburned him and dropped him b4 he even knew what was going on and got his cof and zoned out b4 they even know what was happening. was hilarious.

Btw ride the shit out of this duo with any melee + a healer (manastone hi) till they fix it luls.

Superling from PB was crawlin' around here too for a while.

RZ best server. Slew Sleeper. Actual resist/reward PvP system with anti-pk and pks then guild wars.

Blue 100% more classic than red, there's quite a bit of house cleaning to do there. But red is getting its own new PvP dev, and if its who I think it is... great for business.

Nilbog got the ball moving for red a bit recently which is completely appreciated and outside the realm of anything he ever agreed to do.

We'll hafta see about this teams server but if P99 server history is any indication, people will apply the knowledge learned over the years on day 1.... and have an ENORMOUS evil population (like 85%+) with the good/neuts being the edgy so called PvPs will just face plant in the long run.

I'll try and get atcha tonight in game around the time you said ya msg'd me.

I would have gone red if not for the population. I've only been on p99 for a couple months now, but seeing blue have 800+ pretty consistently and then seeing red in the 100-200 range, well that made my decision pretty easy.

I foresee a bright teams launch.

There is a reason that ogres, trolls and iksars all have experience penalties, and they are all evil. Barbarian is the only penalty for good/neutral and it's basically paying 5% penalty for slam, their starting stats are nowhere near what you get as an ogre or even troll. Plus losing necros/SKs vs losing druids/paladins is another net loss for good/neutral.

Having iksars on your side leads to early dominance in Kunark as well which becomes difficult to overcome. Other evils can come level up in LOIO, OT, etc fairly uncontested while good/neutral battle each other and evil humans, gnomes, erudites, dark elves, etc. Pretty much all of Faydwer and Antonica is contested all the time, aside from like Misty Thicket.

So to sum it up: better tanks, better classes, better starting areas. This leads to the biggest advantage of all, population. Once the ball starts rolling it's tough to overcome that inertia.

Not sure on the resists. Lots of races/classes get hide and see invs is a spell you always have up on a PVP server anyway. Not sure I'd call that a big advantage. DEs are useful to evil only because of class selection really. They are kind of the odd ball location wise for evils and have a rough go until they can relocate to Kunark.

Iksars have Kunark to themselves, and ogres/trolls are near each other. I guess if you're a real glutton for punishment you could play an evil aligned human, erudite, etc. I guess evil needs bards :)

Pretty sure the frontal stun immunity doesn't apply to spells...not 100% on that.

I still talk to Deep on occasion (who was Narilka also). I've been trying to track down Herb and Bigsob. I think Bigsob/Deas may actually be in prison for some ponzi scheme stuff...doh. When I google his name there is someone from the same town with the same name that looks a lot like him who got busted, and his name isn't a very common one.

And there were things I loved about SZ and things I loved about RZ. Item loot was retarded, all it did was force people to bag all their shit. It made PVP too easy because I'd wear all my crap like diamond resist jewelry and I was fighting essentially against naked people. I really enjoyed the politics of RZ though. SZ didn't have that but the PVP was definitely on a larger scale.

True. There was a surprising lack of PVP on RZ though. It was pretty neat when you think about it, a game is always better when policy, economy, etc are player driven rather than defined by a developer.

SZ was definitely a blood bath, but that's because with the grouping/chatting/helping restrictions placed on people by the game itself. You had no compelling reason not to attack someone.

Both had benefits and drawbacks, in the end I think RZ had it right.

On that note, with a new PVP server a legit possibility are they going to go out of their way to make it classic? Or is this a classic game experience but a custom PVP one?

Yep...that's a shame. Cool guy but yeah he always had a lot of money to blow on whatever he wanted. I guess if you're in your late 20s-early 30s and making a couple hundred grand a year it's tough to stay no.

I remember only 2 erudites with Cryo on old RZ, Deakon who was in Sinister, and another wizard who was in Regulators iirc, name slips my mind.

True story - Chad bought and had delivered to my home a whole new computer just so I would box and level up Bigsob along with my toons. At the time it was my 4th EQ capable pc. He basically paid for me to be able to spend full time leading the guild, in addition to the computer, through other RMT items he needed for his war.

All former <Nine> and <tB> welcome on R99! Hit me up for some help to get started, I'm engineering a comeback myself now that Nick has me amped up.
