Hey guys,
My self and about 5-6 others (and hopefully more in the months to come) are new to the server and having a blast so far. Almost everyone I have met so far has been really helpful in getting us going. Special thanks to Linuxcaller as that 50pp at level 8 was a life safer =)
I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the current state of the server or the drama or what is best for the next server but I did just want to mention one of the concerns I have that would likely cause all of us to stop playing in the event of a new server with SZ rules.
We played on Tallon Zek on live many years ago, which allowed us to play our favourite races and classes and cross team. A new server with SZ rules prevents cross teaming, which prevents us from playing with each other with our current characters (after the merge) or forces us to re-roll on the same team which likely makes us play either a race or class we don't want to.
I believe there may be others that find p99 or come back to p99 that want to play for nostalgia what they played on live that would be put off by these rules. I know if I convince more of my old TallonZ friends to play here they're going to want to play their original class/race.
I'd play with VZ or TZ or SZ (w.o the group restrictions) or really any other ruleset.
Cheers,
-

Hey Bokke, at the worst...consider this a training ground to re-acquaint yourselves with EQ pvp mechanics. If they ever axed this server I don't think they could do it without offering a merge to the new one.
Nothing is final on the new structure of some server that might not be here for a good while yet... and playing blue from scratch will put you well behind a lot of players that have been on P99 for longer (twinks etc).
If you need a hand with some starter jewellery I can do that much for you as a group (rings/earrings/bracers/neck/etc). PM me and I'll try and sort something.

Thanks Swish.
We're having fun and aren't too concerned as its so far away but we did just want to voice our thoughts on it. If the idea is to get more players the team restrictions on grouping may be a deterrent to new p99 players, I am not sure how significant, as I gather the goal is to win over existing blue players anyway.

I take it you and your pals would be split with the teams setup?
Genuine concern if there's any hard coded teams. People do level together that would be split.
hardcoded teams could never get in the way of true friendship

Only extremely good pals would reroll.

You're right, teams wouldn't get in the way of true friendship.
But there are other games to play together, we came here to play the class/races that we played back in 2000 on live. Those races are not on the same teams, its a restriction that may be deemed worth it but in our case at least its enough for us to want not want to play with.
I don't expect you to care about us specifically, and like I said its not a great concern to us as we will simply play on the current server until it dies or merges and then quit, but if you want to attract new p99 players at all then anyone other than those coming from SZ live might share our feelings.

No offense, but I think you're in the vast minority if you're willing to go to the trouble of downloading and configuring the emulator, organizing playtime with your friends, spending dozens of hours leveling characters...but unwilling to play anything except a single/race class combination. That's just being bizarrely inflexible. Would it really kill you to try a new race or, God forbid, a new class?

No offense taken, you're probably right. We probably are in the minority, and maybe we're inflexible, but just wanted to voice our opinion. I'll bugger off now.

This is just my thought. The idea of having to reroll after leveling up a character doesn't seem appealing (I am one of the OPs friends that he was talking about). Some people are fairly hardcore into this server, which is great, where as we are basically getting a nostalgia fix relating to our time on Tallon Zek. If you want to increase the server's population you may want to avoid doing drastic changes that can drive people away.

All the work you do here will stay on whatever server wins.
Teams may be softcoded, or a mixture. Or selected in game for one time only.
Its to far out to tell what teams will be. So no point in trying to plan ahead if the teams server wins in the long run.
You'll probably be 60 on at least one character before the new server is released.
