How do:

1) Back up your current files to be able to revert this texture pack: global_chr.s3d and global4_chr.s3d

2) download here (https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B23oc1KFp6cPLVF2WnROc0NhY00&usp=sharing)
Save files in EQ directory

woah

this is awesome

is it just for character models? any intent to do it for ALL textures in the game?

I want to do all the textures but it would take forever. I don't edit each file individually, I do batch editing which makes it faster but there are an incredible amount of textures in this game. Each zone has its own file filled with hundred of textures. I have to extract them, batch edit, do some re-sizing and converting, then recompile the zone file. Doing this on all the zones would take a ton of time.

After running around a bit i've noticed it really makes the game feel newer. I really would like to see how all the zones would look, maybe ill try out a popular zone and see how it turns out. for some reason the graphic remind me of a mixture of WoW and super mario 64 lol

I'm gonna try this when home. Please try out a zone.. would be awesome to see.

Maybe write up your method and crowd source the zones?

I would do a write up on how I did it but I use a few different programs that cost moneys. I use the following for the programs

Here is my attempt at doing EC. Lot of issues.. white border around some textures? not sure why. Textures aren't flipping correctly. work in progress i guess

Very interesting. I'm not sure if I'd like it or not, but I'll give it a try to see.

The zones would be cool too, but can see how it would be a lot. In that last one it would look better if the trees and house textures were also done.

Gotta say it again man, these textures are the shit.

I've been telling my guildies on red99 to check them out.

If it helps motivate you to do more just letting you know they are being used/appreciated :)

Bazia, thanks spreading the word! I particularly find the smaller races to look really good. Also like you said the screenshots don't really do much justice, you have to see in game to really get the feel. EQ's stretched out tiny textures really make the game look dated and although this conversion method might look a bit cartoon like or cell shaded (borderlands comes to mind) It really makes the game feel newer. I'm going to try to find the time to see if i can get some zones and objects rendered properly.

Just outta curiosity, have you experimented with any other scalars? I know some people say they really like the sai ones because they are slightly less cartoony than the hqs.

Sure thing ill write up my process later today. I really gota find out why the zone textures aren't flipping correctly. Once I figure that out I'm gona start pumping out some zones.

I've found out why the zone files weren't flipping also why the white border around some textures were there. Turns out the .bmp files in the zone files aren't actually .bmps, they're .dds files renamed to .bmps for some reason. Only issue this causes is that I currently don't have a way to batch covert the new texture to .dds files. I can however do one at a time in PhotoShop. I need to create a script or something although I have no idea where to start. Maybe I'll post a video to make this more clear later today.

It looks like if you play EQ after 2 bottles of Absinth :p

Gonna give it a try just to see how it works ingame.

It's common knowledge that still images that have been processed with blur effcts often look bad, but it might work when its animated because you don't notice the ugly banding lines then.

All in all, no doubt its a big project if you want to convert all textures ... good luck with that

Re textured EC, Missing some files but almost done. here's the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iKSbsphJ6c&feature=youtu.be

pretty much going to end this project here. Its really just too much work to redo all the zones and many people don't seem to like the cartoon look to it. I'm currently working on a new project by just increasing the original images x4 and using Perfect Resize 7.5 to make the pictures scale much better. This new project will probably be more popular but I am running into some issues. the software is automatically cropping for no good reason when I do a batch process. I hope I can figure out whats going on because this process dramatically improves the texture detail while remaining true to the "realistic" style that eq has.

I really like the look you have here, and could be willing to help out if you want to keep the project going. I am a 100% novice though.

Well done.

im using what i guess was the first release of texture packs here, which only changed the character models.. its great! i wouldnt want to go back..

but i would like to be able to convert the rest of the world into the cell-shader look, to increase my immersion. any chance this project was completed?

EDIT: ok it seems as though a few zones were done.. im excited to see why it takes 155Mb for akanon

I'm in the process of doing the same thing except with a better resize program. So far I've done about 1/4 of all the zones. Look for a release in the next month or two! Here's a preview.

Hey, thanks! Still in progress though. Since I posted this I haven't made much progress in the amount of zones but have in the file size.

When I posted these the file sizes were anywhere from 50-300mb each. This would have been a download larger than 20gig when all the zones were done. Way too much.

Did some testing and got them down to around 30% of that large file size. Then, thanks to this thread (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=160670) I was able to get them down even smaller. Now, for instance, instead of the najena_obj file being 154mb it's 14mb. Much better.

So far I'm about halfway through going back and resaving all the zones I had done prior.

So glad to hear about the file size progress and that you're still working away on this. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the final results. Already using the current version of the project and it makes the game look soo much better.
