Oh shit, another red99 thread.

NO.

Well, yes, but hear me out.

I'm a blue player. I have several characters on blue, and enjoy it there a lot. Recently I started up on red. I've been having an absolute blast, and I'm not the only one. Swish has been red99'ing it up, as well as several other well known blue players. Why? Because it's a lot of fun.

Going to be totally honest here, the 200% xp modifier is great. It's letting me play classes I wouldn't dare touch on blue. I'd NEVER have the patience to play a wizard on blue. On red, it suddenly becomes possible for me to rock a gnome wizzy and pewpew things left and right while i port all around norrath with impunity. Iksar sk? Good lord I wouldn't touch that on blue, ever. Yet on red it's totally viable (and not even that painful) to play something with a 68% xp penalty.

"But gotrocks," you say to me with a mouthful of bloomin onions, "What about all those griefing spergloids we constantly hear on the forums? Isn't red a barren wasteland of retards pking each other into the ground, driving both the server and their lives into the earth like some kind of pixelated hindenberg?"

yes, there are griefers on red 99, and they can suck. but they are not NEARLY as prevalent as the forums and global ooc make it sound. In my whole time playing on red so far i haven't been greifed once. The couple times i've been hunted down and pk'd, i was able to loot and scoot (loot my corpse and go on my way) without any problems at all.

As a matter of fact, most of the red community is just as nice and friendly, if not more so, than blue. There is a very real sense of community on red 99, and the majority of hte people you meet are stand up guys and gals. There's just not that many people overall. We need more players! the more people we get on red the more fun we will all have.

Recently the devs gave us yellow text (shows who has killed who when someone dies, global), the 2.0 xp modifier, and NO XP LOSS on pvp death! When you die the only thing players can loot is pp. These are all fantastic additions to the server, and are all reasons why YOU should come play on red!

And lastly, and I think most importantly, is the raid scene. Right now on blue there seems to be a serious problem with the end game being dominated by one guild. And there's not much anyone can do about it. On red, if you want to down trak, you can do it by removing whatever guild is camping it. This will likeyl turn into a huge (and really fun) guild war type situation. And don't think just because nihilum is all vp geared that you can't compete! VP geared players are regularly beat down by ''walmart'' geared players all the time. The raid scene in red is ripe and ready for new players to come in and challenge it, now is your chance disenfranchised blue players!

Similarly, for people doing camps, if someone is at a camp you want and you dont feel like waiting in line for htem to be done... just pk them and the camp is yours! This is totally legal and a valid tactic. That's not to say that everyone runs around pk'ing people for their camps - people often DO wait in line for camps, but it's an option.

Lastly, it's just a lot of fun. There is just a general feeling of excitement wherever you go. you never know if that person in the zone with you is going to end up being an awesome friend, or your worst enemy. And on Red99, a friend is worth far more than they could ever be worth on blue. And an enemy... well, lets just say an enemy is far more than someone you talk shit to in game and flame on the forums in RnF.

After playing on red99, I'm not sure if i'll ever go back. Blue is still fun an enjoyable, and I do still log in from time to time, but red has been eating all my time. I'm now on my first alt, an iksar sk, and it's just as much fun and excitement as my first character - I just want there to be more players. If you haven't tried red99 RECENTLY then i highly recommend giving it a shot. You might just find you like it more than blue. And if you don't, no sweat - your blue character will still be there when you get back. You've got nothing to lose - except days of your life when you inevitably get sucked into red :).

If you decide to start up on red feel free to post in this thread. My wiz will be happy to give ports and binds to people looking to group up with each other. I may even have some pp to spare for some of you (though I'm not rich :) ).

Give red99 a shot! You definitely won't regret it!

I'd like to really stress the thing about griefing. i know that is the #1 thing that keeps a lot of people from red99 - they are afraid they are going to get non stop pk'd the entire time they play, and won't be able to enjoy the game. This isn't true at all. Unless you are asking for it, the chances of you getting griefed are slim to none. This may have been different in the past, but those players have either left the game or grown up, because there are very very few of them left. And they mostly hang out in unrest (so avoid that zone! There are plenty of awesome places to level around 20, and no one ever gets to see them because everyone just goes to unrest!). So if griefing spergloids have kept you away in the past, nows the time to come try red99.

One last thing. Global ooc can be very obnoxious at times. So can the forums. Just ignore them if it bothers you. GM's have already said if we get enough pop global ooc is going away, and even if we don't its probably going to become restricted. So don't let that stop you from getting the definitive eq experience (and trust me, red99 is that).

Hope I see you on red! Feel free to message gotgnomes or gotknight, or post in this thread for help!

Isn't red a barren wasteland of retards pking each other into the ground, driving both the server and their lives into the earth like some kind of pixelated hindenberg?"
No because I didn't find anyone to PK.

Made bard there some time ago, lvl'd to 17, only pvp I saw was couple AFKers caught slipping or some guy who just ran for it upon hostilities.

Only good time I had was on a mage when some fungi twink ranger in his 150+MR getup was raging at broken earth pet rooting him despite all of his mithrils and tranny crowns and jac rings. Something poetic about guy having farmed stuff for his griefing alt for months only to have all his effort undermined by a malachite.

I recently started new also, having a blast! And never been griefed yet, most of the griefing seems to be endgame players with a history with each other. Though if you come on with a big mouth acting like an asshat thinking you're so tough - well someone just did that lol.

Hey Gotgnomes, you gave me a free port a little while ago (couple weeks? I level slow lol) since I'm new to the server. I tried to pay you 10pp which was about all I had - as I was headed to the Nybright sisters I knew I'd be getting a little plat ... you refused payment! Interested in some low-level resist jewelry at all? I'd still like to pay for that kindness :) Let me know and I'll msg you in game.

Hey! Thats awesome of you to remember :) but i'd rather you sell that jewelry and keep the pp for yourself :) gotgnomes is doing fine pp wise atm. but thank you for remembering!

As for grouping up, the best way to do that is to start up a thread in server chat for red. You'll definitely find some likeminded people to group up with. Also keep in mind that there ARE random people to group with on red, you just have to hit lvl 10 and get global ooc to find them easily.

As for PVP, there would be much more pvp if more people joined the server. this is my big recruitment drive. most people who have tried red lately have enjoyed it! I'm not saying its for everyone, but if more people tried it I think they'd find themselves enjoying it

Hi everybody! I think this is my first official post here! I've been reading a lot but never had the guts to post anything!
I am relatively new to p99, and back in the day when i played EQ, i was a young kid, so i never fully understood how the game quite worked. Now, being older, i'm still trying to figure out a ton of stuff... so bare with me if my questions seem kindda silly
So in red99, anyone can pvp at anytime? like, can a lvl 60 crush on a lvl 5 player or are there some level restrictions?
I play a CLE on blue, but only log on when 2 close friends do, and lately it has been impossible to match our schedules, so i tried an alt, but xp penalty is a bitch (as i have an OGRE SK, maybe not the wisest desition, but i really like the tank feeling - as in it's not a life risking thing to fight a blue mob, lol ) so maybe, as you so convincingly said, this could be a nice ride. But one of my main worries is to be working hard, and maybe losing all my plat to a dbag that has nothing better to do than ruin your game! and going paranoicly to the bank every 15 minutes it's not a very appealing thing for me as well.. so, could you please explain me a little bit better how does the pvp thing works?

Dalron
08-30-2013, 11:13 AM
Oh I'm not selling any, was just offering to you since items are so hard to get and magic resistance is more important here. Thought there might be a small chance you could use a couple +4 MR bracers ... or maybe some +CHA gear for buying/selling to vendors.

I always remember ... :)

theres level restrictions, so a 60 cannot just go and steamroll a lvl 5.

also, you dont have to run to the bank every 15 mins, usually you're going to have a ton of warning before someone pks you, just make sure you check /who and communicate.

glad to see some people showing interest :)

also, chewie is box hero. helped me out when i first started on my wiz :) i've paid it forward 10x since then! I hope you all do the same!

A classic post From 09-30-2012, 03:27 AM:

For some of us playing on blue is not relaxing. Its like being locked in prison, a prison for your mind.

Pvp Dude: I imagine that right now, you're feeling a bit like Alice. Hmm? Tumbling down the rabbit hole?
bluebie: You could say that.
Pvp Dude: I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a bluebie who accepts what they see because they're expecting to wake up. Ironically, that's not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, bluebie?
bluebie: No.
Pvp Dude: Why not?
bluebie: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Pvp Dude: I know *exactly* what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
bluebie: Blue99.
Pvp Dude: Do you want to know what it is?
bluebie: Yes.
Pvp Dude: Blue99. is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this zone. You can see it when you look at your spellbook or when you play /gems. You can feel it when you go to raid... when your poopsocking... when you get batphoned. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
bluebie: What truth?
Pvp Dude: That you are a slave, bluebie. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Into a prison that you cannot taste or see or touch. A prison for your mind.

You have no freedom bluebie, take the red pill.

Free your mind

Red is empty. There isn't much grief because there isn't much of anyone to grief. Even the most horrid of grief bastards wouldn't spend 6 hours for 1-2 pvp kills. If you flood lowbie places with Lowbies the grief bastards will turn out in droves. They log off their level 60s and show up to kill and kill until the lowbies are gone then disappear only to return later. Any fool who thinks that isn't the case is a moron. Even currently you'll see a higher level appear in a zone and correlate it to a sudden reappearance of another high level. Hell there is a whole guild dedicated to just Pking in Unrest lol. Its funny but it is what you will have to deal with nightly.

Here's the thing ... I never stepped foot on Florida (or New York, or California, or where ever) ... but I know it would suck.

So much illogical thought in the quoted post I actually laughed out loud!

I've never been griefed. Some guys do get all butthurt if they get attacked ... on a pvp server ... imagine that, lol! But that isn't griefing.

If you come on talking smack you probably will get griefed eventually, just like in real life you talk shit someone's going to eventually punch you in the mouth. Griefing doesn't seem to happen that much if you actually play on Red and don't just forumquest the boards there.

Unless you make a history with someone ...

Or come on talking smack.

And don't believe "stories". I attacked a guy once, then befriended him with another character later - the 'story' he told about that attack was completely false lol!

So don't believe this guys story when he hasn't even stepped foot on Red .... still laughing about that.

tl;dr - Never been griefed. Griefing rarely happens unless you're an asshat.

Replace Florida with Pakistan or Papa New Guinea. Perhaps two alien and hostile lands to westerners. And consider being dropped there with nothing but a pair of ragged shorts and a stick.

However. Both countries have their pros and merits. And are not entirely bad. And once you learn the language and local customs you might get to see some pretty amazing sites and meet some really interesting people. Enjoy some wonderful food and music. That is if you don't starve to death or get killed by the locals out of spite.

Red definitely has its worth it moments. Or the population would have been 0 by now. Rather than steadily increasing and more or less stable actually. I took a long break, many do, and the server gets a lot of players back who quit even.

Granted even I muted /ooc last night and I'm a long time forumquester, and occasional troll.

Hiya, Azure here reporting in from Neriak on red99!

So I had a great big dilemma to decide what server to play on. Do I play on blue?
I can trade skill and use the economy to get an easy head start.
I can find lots of groups to play with.
Zones may be really crowded and I have to wait in line for a camp.
End game is pretty stale.
Having to be a lucky chosen applicant to a guild and work extra heard to "earn" my place behind older players who simply have more time invested in their characters. Either through plat or DKP.

Or do I start on red server?
The potential to do anything is there.
I have to work on tradeskills myself just got get gear.
Find my own weapons.
Can be killed or killed by others.
End up soloing most of my time.
Get killed by extremely well organized and skilled PvPers who want nothing to do with a 'bluebie' and beg their mercy.

Well. I decided to go for the adventure and chose red.
So far I haven't become a casualty of anyones ego.
I managed to save up quite a large number of pelts.
I even found a buyer who helped me earn enough platinum to work up smithing.
Some kinda high levels dropped me a few great starting weapons. A Harpoon of the depths (Thanks Crockett) and Sacrificial Dagger, and Dragoon Dirk!
I've had to solo. But it has been relaxed and at my own pace.
I have seen a few people get killed in Neriak at the bank. But it truly makes the city feel alive. Like its a Dark elf city with foes and opposing houses everywhere!
The /ooc has been dismal and flooded with out of game topics and arguing amongst a few players, at least 6 on my ignore list now. And I had to put it in its own window.

I'm now a level 14 rogue. And am enjoying my stay there. I see a few people soloing (a bard, a druid). But haven't gotten into a group yet.

Reading the forums I hear horror stories about zones like unrest. But as a rogue, I wont be going there alone!

These are things to consider if you want to choose red. Good luck, and hope to see some more newbies on the server =)

Oh I just wanted to add: There is an active guild there that recruited me <Union> they have a porter and I see other people (Linuxcaller) offering ring to ring ports. You may just have to be extremely patient and wait a few hours to get anywhere. Meaning red requires a bit more foresight and planning. But its not a ghost town =)

Well I guess we should all welcome you aboard???? to the Blue Server Forum?????

I posted in Fames thread on Reds forums. They are kinda a cesspool =/

Everyone waits for teams now

To those afraid of loosing your red chars or loosing the time you invest let me tell you what I gleaned from the live stream:

Red99 is getting fixed first.
Teams99 will be released with a faster timeline after all the pvp fixes are done.
Boxes will be merged based on population and popularity of rules. So if a particular rule is really unpopular. Say Item loot. It will be removed at merge.
You can play on both boxes at once.
Theres no ETA, nothing is fleshed out and teams99 is not even a certainty. You have plenty time to see the endgame on R99 before worrying about getting legacy items on the new box )

If teams99 flops, you will be able to keep your characters and at least have a chance for goodies on R99 like rubis, manastones, and guises =)

Its funny seeing the end gamers shaking in their boots that population could rise one day to 300+ though and a real opposition could form no matter what their gear, and level status is =)

Don't let the naysers detract you! Its all part of their metagame plan.

And Ding 16 =)

I would like to update and bump!

So far I have got level 21, and some very decent gear. Thanks to the kind souls on this server.

Today, I spent a lot of time soloing orc legionaires. I ran into believe it or not another noob! But this wasn't just any noob it was an EQ noob. And not only an EQ noob, a PvP noob.

You would have never guessed from 1st impressions.

I was hiding at the camp watching some glorious youtube and slowly killing a lego once my health was up to decent levels. And I got a group invite. Some lowbie ranger sent me a tell looking for a group in, guess where... OASIS!!!! (Been LFG there for many days).

So as I got up to leave I saw a newbie run into the camp screaming in /shout for buffs (I'm the only one in zone) and proceed to gank the mob I was camping. In a fury I chased them down and backstabbed them...

Was this a necro? SK? Did he have treeweeve? Were those dragonclaws? Did they know about PvP, Where they going to bash me with that sheild and interupt me with their low delay weapon? Did I face an HT?

All of these things flashed through my mind as I rushed into battle this foe. He was lower then me and already fighting a monster. But I would not let this chance pass. I have no amazing gear or weapons myself and for all I know this guy has the equivalent of VP gear.

I stabbed him and he ran in fear. He strafed very well. I was sure I got the jump on an EVIL NIHILUM alt. (By now I know who the BAD GUYS are).

We ran through the zone, I was assuming he was running to the guards or the zone line. And I got a few lucky stabs in. But the killer, was an Ad from a ghoul which stunned him. I got a few more lucky stabs and I finished him off. The monsters didn't even notice me as I vanished into the air.

He had a nice juicy 11 plat on him. Probably too lazy to bank.

I went off to oasis to meet my partner and got a tell asking, "Hey can this SK join us". I was like ... sure, he's pretty mad though. Needless to say, I told him I was more than happy to group, and wouldn't PK him. He said, fine.

I met him in Oasis and inspected my new found groupmate.... LOW and BEHOLD he has CLOTH ARMOR!!!!!! and a Leather Tunic. This poor unfortunate soul was in worse need then I!

I quickly offered to supply him with the finest banded I could make. Which he recieved upon delivery. By the time I got back to Oasis the zone was full of life! There were at least 8 people there.

We grouped for a bit and had some tribulations with organization. But all eventually went well and on one of my runs back to my corpse I ran into some extremely skilled and deadly efficient mercenaries that I had grouped with once before for a short while. A monk and Bard. They were geared in your standard classic lowbie items, nothing special. But looked like they knew what they were doing and down to business.

The monk will make a great plushie one day.

We quickly recruited these masters of all things EQ and we started to destroy anything scaled and grey in the zone. The SK didn't even know how to use his disease cloud!!!!

We quickly schooled this new player on the use of their most important spell and got to work! It was glorious, crocs and orcs were splattered everywhere. Nothing could stand in our path. We were trading agro and bouncing mobs back and forth. Kiting and slaying.

Yet an EVIL darkness approached. A very sad little gnome. He didn't even have wooden legs. This GNOME was none other than Slumlord. My group screamed in terror as he approached and I said. Prepare for death! I jousted Slumlord as much as I could. But there was no escaping his foul Nihilum tainted ragebringer 1.0 or his super buffs. I tried to use a pumice on him, but got stabbed before I could even land the dispell. I fell. It turns out our SK friend, ran at the first sight of this new foe and told the group he would be soloing near the docs!

On the way back he decided to leave us alone. The ganker had no interest in killing us much that night. The rest of the group was far OOR.

We proceeded to fight for a bit longer and after another hour our friend re-appeared. We decided to leave at that point rather than face an impossible and sad foe. This gnome seems to have no passion for warfare. They just want an easy win button. I guess they feel entitled to it. After poopsocking for Nizzar all this time.

Yet we still had fun. Our grind was not deterred. We pvp'd. I won a battle. And made more friends!

When I logged on briefly later I saw Slumlords forlorn corpse in the middle of oasis. Curled up and alone. Something got him. Probably his own hatred of himself. For being a week and childish thug.

This is the story of my first day of pvp.

And P.S. level 21 =)

See you at level 60 Slumlord!

Joshy, hang in there. People will ridicule you for your first gut reactions. But I see potential in you. You will be a great SK one day. Stay loyal, and stay true!

I really hate epic twinks that ruin it for other new players. I dont do it and I will discipline anyone in Nihilum doing it. Just shoot me a tell if an alt of ours is giving you trouble.

You big bitch. You got chased down, hunted...if you had turned the wrong way or didn't keep running, (and you were running for your life quick, with quite a distance) you would've been PK'd, simple as that - and you knew that. You didn't even utilize shadowstep, you could have easily stepped way out into the water. Some SK you are...2 button rogue suits you. Then you got on TeamSpeak and got all friendly to avoid getting killed when we had you at a zoneline. That was the laughable part. Seeing how you come post here, we should have PK'd you anyways.

Not hypocrisy, but forthright. Not shit talk, truth.

RZ was legendary. You either were there and understood it, or you don't. Don't try to involve yourself into an argument / comment that has nothing to do with you, in an attempt to make faulty points / look even more stupid the more posts you make, even if this is a public forum, know where to step the f#$@ off and not talk.

Ever notice Nihilum never responds to you people's long drawn out obsessively stupid immature rants? It's like you anti Nihilists are consistently trying to cook up your next batch of toxic brew to sling at them, but it's not given any attention, yet you still do it. After awhile it's like you're kneeling to them, for every bit of smack talk you think is important for everyone to hear. Through all the constant raiding, they just want to play the game and avoid all the foolish drama and have fun. I don't blame em. They're a good guild; it's no wonder they have half the server in their ranks. A thing called honor doesn't seem to exist anymore, at least not on here, not with you people. RZ was much different than that. I know it was a different time, and my nostalgia may cloud it some, but it was a better community. Show some respect.

You're so socially inept, sound so dumb and hardheaded when you post, usually having no place. You two would make a good couple. You'd get lost in each others idiocy. But please don't breed, got enough gimps in this world like you scampering about.

That's always your best comeback, don't you get bored of yourself? Too many Tstaff hits in the head when you were young and should have been liquidated instead.

Smash you like you should have been when you hatched in your brood pit in the sewers of West Cabilis. Yeah this is ridiculous isn't it HB? What a ruination of karma, devolving to his level even responding to that scumbag.

I'm tempted to try it out, but I have never gotten very far in Everquest level wise, and I don't really want my first real high level character to get there because of an experience modifier. I'm 99% sure I'll try Red after I get to a certain milestone in Blue though.

The exp modifier I hear really ends at 50, so you will still have to put the work in it.

I personally love the xp mod. Gives me the chance to level in EQ while still being able to handle those lame responsibilities of real life...

Give it a shot nothing says you cant play both at the same time. Shoot me a tell In game ill do my best to help you get started.
