problems connecting to r99

A buddy of mine installed the game, updated spell files. used wineq. Makes it to the server select he can load into blue 99, but when he connects to r99 he disconnects to login screen

A couple of the errors were a result of overclocking. The others were not resolved, but connection issues were suspected.

I occasionally get the 1017 error as well, I would like to know how to solve this as well

We have gone through every thread and tried everything. He's gonna try using a net cable rather than wireless but he has to go buy one so I'm waiting to see the results of that.

I just got on yesterday had the same issues, I found that if I put my desktop and game to 1280x720 or near it cxl'ed the booting me to login. I had tried like 4 different res combo's unsuccessfully so if that doesn't work try another combo.

If that doesn't work tell him to try and update all his drivers especially the ones you normally wouldn't think of.

I am new too so looking for friends and also for info on quests and vender locations I forget how difficult the game is when theres no maps! Friccan awesome!

1017 is such a pain in the ass. Definitely try using a hardwired connection instead of wireless to see if that makes a difference. trying different reso's may work as well.

the fact that you can connect to blue but not red is really, really strange. Does anyone know if red99 uses a different port to connect through than blue? If so, we may have found the source of this persons problem.

If you haven't already, install EQ to c:\everquest instead of program files.

Also, if you have any virus software installed, particularly norton or mcaffee, disable (or even consider deleting) it. I know for a fact that those can mess with EQ and p99. i've even heard of avg messing with people's ability to play, though i use it and haven't had a problem.

Hey! I am a long time Rallos Zek player and recently discovered this server and was so excited to get back to playing original EQ with my buddies, and we too cannot get passed the server screen without getting kicked back to the login screen and then seeing a 1017 error. I have tried EVERYTHING listed in the other help articles. We just cant get this to work. All 3 of use are having the same problem. I have put so many hours into this for weeks that I am almost about to accept the fact that is was never meant to be. =(

Is your processor overclocked?

disabled all virus software? (or removed completely, in the case of mcaffee/norton?)

Unfortunately yes. I haven't overclocked my processor. I play on a Samsung Chronos 7 laptop with Windows 8. My other friend is on a desktop, and the other on a Macbook with windows, we all have the same exact problem. We are somewhat computer savvy as well. =( We are all so frustrated about the issue and have been trying so hard to get going. We were absolute fiends back in the day so we are very eager to get play.

I can also connect to the other servers just fine. Just not 1999.

Just got it to work! TY. Was weird. I just patched the blue project 1999 and then project PVP started working? I had tried everything and was just about to give up. I also moved my EQ to c:/ instead of leaving it program files like you suggested. Not sure which change did it. Thank so much. See you in game. =)
