Okay I have not played live since like 04 or 05 SO I was wondering about a few things.

I've noticed that low levels mobs are listed as having crazy loot...
EXAMPLE:
http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=19744

Are these ultra-rare drops or something? I'm not seeing how a level 18 trash mob should be dropping stuff like that.

Another question, fabled mobs with fabled gear?
EXAMPLE:
http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=14817
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=27202

I'm guessing these are ultra-rare spawns? Is the normal version of the spawn like a placeholder or something?

New spells:
EXAMPLE:
http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=4279&source=Live

Since when do enchanters pick locks???

Oh and tradeskills:
http://eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=49&rsa=Jewelcraft&sb=item&sub=enchanted&menustr=080070010000

Did they remove old school enchanted jewelry? Or is the EQ traders corner database just messed up?

That's all I can think of at the moment but would like to keep this thread alive as an EQLive Q & A of sorts.
I highly doubt at this point I would ever go back but my curiosity gets the better of me sometimes.

I can answer your questions.

First is a simple case of mudflation. Newer expansions make better gear available at lower levels (and much much beter gear available at higher levels). This is also one of the ways they get people to older zones.

The Fabled mobs spawn every March for a month to celebrate the anaversery of EQ. This was actually an attempt to simulate what p99 is doing (making a mob that hasn't been touched in years a challenge that requires a group of well equipt (by current standards) and drops good loot).

The first year of the Fableds was amazing. No level requirments and huge lines for camps (a fabled version of Jboots dropped, and Najina had people in it 24/7 the entire month, LGuk was the same with fabled FBSS and EE bags dropping).
The second year was Kunark mobs and they put level restrions on to attempt to cut down on twinking. Still some good loot, just not as good as the first year. The third year blew (High risk mobs, low reward gear). I quit live after that.

As for the spells, the LDON expansion had magically locked and lootable treasure chests. There is also spells to check for magic traps and disarm them.

And the "Defiant" gear you see dropping on the Aviak is part of the "Living Legacy" event. This was part of the 10th anniversary celebration where they reactivated ALL ACCOUNTS ever created for a month of free play. Even accounts that hadn't been used in years were reactivated.

The defiant gear dropped in 10-level increments, starting with level 10, all the way up to 70. They were "world-drop" weapons and armor that had a chance to drop off any mob in the zones of their corresponding level tiers.

In addition to his, any character account that returned from the grave during this month of free play could claim gifts via a mailbox system which offered you 3 randomly selected pieces of Defiant armor appropriate for your class and level. In addition to the armor, they also got 5 double XP potions and a "Temporal Chrysalis" which would hatch into a black dragon mount after the LL event ended.

Shortly after the Living Legacy Event ended, they went back to some of the old zones like Blackburrow, Splitpaw and Lower Guk and made them into "Darkened" versions for two weeks. Similar to the Fabled event, but the entire zone was changed to be challenging to current "end-game" players instead of just the "famous" monsters. They upgraded existing loot in these dungeons and even added new pieces. For example, plate wearers could try to get themselves a whole set of Enameled Black armor, not just the chest.

Giving away brand new armor to everyone for the LL event, and then doing it again in the darkened zones only a week later was a ridiculous cluster-fuck. Just one more poorly implemented Sony disaster.

Hopefully Big C's post and this has helped to explain everything. :)

Higher end players on live right now have on the order of 25-30k HP/mana on them, if not more. I don't know if that blows your mind, but it does mine. I would assume that DPS is probably measured in the thousands.

"Let me put it this way: ever heard of Plato? Aristotle?"
"Yes."
"Morons!"
