View Full Version : Need motivation to play on Red.

I want so bad to play on the PvP server (because PvP and Everquest are like my two favorite things in the world) but I'm intimidated by the fact that Blue server almost usually has 8-9 times the amount of players that Red has. On Blue I can /w nearly any zone and find some players, but on Red, I've been in East Commons and Freeport and even Sro by myself for hours without seeing a single soul. Does this change the higher level I get? Will I start seeing more players? Thanks in advance!

I predict a population of 300 tops by the end of this year.

Your real options on red are:

Join the blubie Zerg and dominate raid content
Join the shattered resistance and pick up the scraps, if any
Fly solo to 60 and be an opportunist pvper

If you don't roll with a crew, PUG XP groups post 50 are mostly nonexistent.

It never changes

It never gets better

You will get99% of your exp solo

Playerbase is toxic, resists don't work

Don't spend any time here just play on blue.

Well, if this is true then alrighty then, heh. The only tempting things of this server were the PvP and the increased exp rate.

its a fun server if you come in with realistic expectations. there wont be any classic OT wars or common lands brave heart style clashes. there will be a gank here and there with a few skirmishes. all in all worth it if you like pvp and eq. again just dont expect epic mass pvp.

red is a place for people who have burned bridges with TMO on blue to come and raid VP

It's not terribly hard to make allies and level up with a small generation of folk til the XPing gets tough around the 30s. The XP boost really helped some people out.

The more people that flake out because of sentiments such as yours, the less of an opportunity we have to fix the current situation. Dont be a part of the problem. Be a part of the solution.

Don't listen to them the server is a lot of fun just try to make friends with people as you level up and get into good duo'ing groups.

Duo'ing I level insanely fast. You might have to play a solo char at first because it's really really brutal leveling up a untwinked melee in Classic.

Don't listen to trolls.

Server is plenty of fun, heck I just grouped in Guk for a bit earlier today with a full crew of level 40s.

Only thing I have to say is:
You will be killed.
You will want to pay them back.
Vengeance?
OOC spam.

Level 1-50 you probably won't even see another player unless you loaf around in a city for a long time and some guy comes there to buy spells, OR you choose to level in unrest, which is a nice place but is one of the only places to find pvp.

level 50-60 you will mainly see pvp if you spend time in OOT or are in rivervale and someone decides to nuke you while you are banking which is a sin against humanity since rivervale is a place of peace. I think im gunna start killing the banker so people have to go elsewhere.

Otherwise, uhh, don't worry about it. Be cool and you will make friends easily.

The population difference still intimidates me, heh. But ah hell, I'll give it a go.

Edit: What's the least played class on the server? Worst class to PvP with?

See, this is what everyone says, but if they rolled on Red and stuck with it, there would easily be 500 people playing here.

Also for least played classes... Paladin, Ranger, SK perhaps? They're great PvP, but the Hybrid penalty is really brutal. There's no "worst" class to PvP as, it's all on the player and what he or she chooses to do. Ex: Epic Wizard jumps you. Do you A)Dispell him with your golem wand? B)Try to eat through that epic skin at the bottom of his buff order? C)Run away crying? or D)Try to interrupt that mofo everytime he casts with well-timed stuns, after getting his skin dispelled, while still doing adequate damage to make him/her worried?

Trick question. The wizard is Hectorchrist so opt for option E; let him rain himself, nuke him once for killshot and then watch him spam you for an hour accusing you of hacking.

What do you like more? It's worth it to invest time into at least one character on red. Even if you don't play here all the time. There are times where its fun. And times where its boring. And times where the sparse population is a + and times where its frustrating.

If you really like leveling in groups though, red is extremely hard for that playstyle. Does that out-way your desire to kill or be killed?

On the + side, its faster here, no matter what class you pick 2x as fast. Though thats only fun till 20-30 if your not a strong soloer.

Completely inaccurate btw. You will have pvp entire leveling process especially if you go to the hot exp spots

Only if you go to hot EXP spots, thats what I was saying. If you don't go to unrest you will probably not find PVP unless runlvlzero is on one of his 100 alts on a personal RP quest through qeynos region or something.

The player base seems a little toxic. Sitting in EC grinding bears and pumas and just a lot of trolling / flaming and hate going on in OOC. Lol.

Edit: Still going on, heh. Is it always like this?

i can field this one!

Its global OOC, you are hearing the entire server chat. note the number of names chatting vs those actually logged in.

small %, very ... vocal. dont worry about it, seems most people just play and level in peace

Make ooc a one line box and only look at it when you wtb something. The four people in ooc..just don't look at it. Seriously there is 100 people on server and 6 or something in ooc. Just play with other 90 whatever players.

Heh, but without the global OOC, if you aren't in a guild it gets really..lonely lol. Empty zones, no chat. Trying my best to ignore OOC and just level, but it's really hard starting out a new melee character (level 8 SK ftw!) Which brings me to my next question :p when will I start getting better gear and weps? I'm not the kind of EQ play that knows how to farm thousands of plat to buy gear.

Well, you can probably get enough plat by selling skins/bonechips/silks to other players, then go ahead and buy a set of bronze/banded that will last 'til 30 at least.

At 30, you start to do Darkforge/Dreadscale quests (for an SK at least), and then start grouping/duoing in High Keep or Rivervale (the Halfling guards make you a lot of money.)

Use that money for a better weapon/ shield/some hp rings (MoSS, Mistmoore Shield, Mithril 2h, Dark Reaver, etc.)

As for the OOC, it's a game, laugh at them and shake your head at how they're getting worked up over a 14 year old, emulated, MMO. There are some friendly folks around, and then there's the poison apples who seem to want to see the server's pop dwindle.
