View Full Version : Hmm.. what class to choose?

I'm very indecisive about what class to choose. I want to play a class I enjoy but I also want to be competitive when it comes to PvP. I'm interested in playing a necromancer, SK, or wizard. I've noticed on the pvp leaderboards that wizards, monks, and rogues do really well while, surprisingly, necromancers and SKs are doing poorly(or there just isn't that many of them). I always remember necromancers and SKs destroying PvP during classic but maybe I'm greatly mistaken. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Anything Plate, is best. War, Paly, Cleric, SK

Troll or Iksar SK is a no brainer good choice, but if you want somewhat of a challenge as well you can't go wrong with an Erudite Paladin.

necros suck dick here
no one plays SKs because they take god damn forever to level, very good pvp class
most of the wizards/monks high on leaderboard are a direct cause of AE spells having no range check and tstaff lasting 18 seconds

SKs are just not that good here for a variety of reasons, including resists not working classicly, there being no two hand weapon damage bonus currently which makes SK dps awful in pvp outside of your once an hour harm touch, they bring no utility to pvp etc. Compare to warriors who have innate MR no xp penalty can dual wield have precision disc that lasts 3 minutes and makes all of your attacks hit 100% on 30 minute cool down (effectively 27), rogues with the ability to one shot someone with duelist, monks, paladins who have a ton of utility such as stuns that land way too much / heals / cures etc.
Just a side note everything I wrote above is about end game group or mass pvp. At the low end SKs are great and in a 1v1 setting they can be formidable, but at the end game on red99 you're not going to find a lot of 1v1 jousting contests (or at all). Stick with a warrior/rogue/monk if you want a melee.

Drains are good when resists are tuned. HT discipline in Velious is gross.
Go mage here pal.

It all depends on his goals. If you're rolling here just to mess around and pvp then yes sks are fine, mages are lol, etc. If your goal is join classic or nihilum eventually and raid / mass pvp, melees will always be king.

Druid or wizard first class is always nice to have around as well and can easily make money/farm gear for that melee toon. Wizards are the kings of ganking, druids are pretty decent out doors, and good at surprise ganking prepared people if you are sneaky. Nice to always have a competent toon to fall back on.

I'd say wizard or SK, out of the classes you listed. Heartbrand is crazy and SKs are very powerful in pvp. Wizards also awesome, plus ports. Druid is a very good choice too.

Please refute my assertion with proofs then as to how SKs are a better choice at end game than warriors / rogues / monks or even pallies. They are restricted to two handers which suck in mass pvp due to no dmg bonus and no mighty strike type disc, have shit spells, and a once an hour HT that's extremely lackluster in mass pvp and can even be resisted (but you can snipe some YT). If you're referring to low levels and that unrest pvp then ya lol troll sk unkillable and you can one shot newb casters with HT grats.
People talk as though this is a live pvp server with tons of jousting and other shit. At end game most pvp is group or mass pvp (Druid and wizard pvp aside) and they just don't shine on red99 with the current system compared to other melees.

Samwise speaks wisely. Rogue #1 fun class with the super pixels to back it up and flesh it out. You could rough it out. But you will get 2 chars for the price of one (same time played on both vs just the rogue) if you do any other toon first )

The number's on most wizards are due to the pillar's having unlimited range and many wizards will be dropping off in score.
Wizard a great class for pvp, very easy to do well with but the few that master the class will shine above the rest who just rely on big nukes, without timing interrupt's.
Druids a solid as hell pvp class there really should be a lot more high ranked druids on boards, atleast ten times a day I wish I was a druid to cheetah after a victim who's getting away.
Downsides: PVE these two classes just suck at farming gear lewts they rely on kiting and cannot solo any mobs that summon. Now for raiders and groupers this isn't a problem but for lone killers like me it can be quite a pain.
SK's are an excellent pvp class, highly offensive and with shadowstep they can escape rapes that make most melee's fold. They are gods indoors easily feign deathing a mob there on, getting it onto their opponent and finishing them off.
Downsides: Huge lvling penalty and not the greatest solo lvler but they can do it better than most melee's and hybrid's with fear snare. Without a quillmane cloak you will be at a huge disadvantage to any caster with lev in an outdoor zone.

I like how you mention a bannable offense.
I'd like clarification on this.
Are you telling me that if I a SK is fighting a mob and someone tries to gank me, I am not allowed to fd and let the mob attack his ganker?
well you can suck my dick and my mob's dick too

p sure that's fine
as a monk if i'm being chased by a non-FD class and i don't want to take the fight i'm def going to run into mobs and feign if they chase after me, their fault for running into the mobs
training would be moreso if you brought the mobs to them

Be your favorite class and role play (even if just in your head). Even a ranger can pvp well if you get to know your character and take advantage of his strengths rather than be hindered by his weaknesses.
Just gotta love your character or you won't have as much fun. gotta get immersed.

Only time HB PvP outside of big fights is when he has a cleric(5 soulfire charges), an enchanter( full golem wand), a hoop (a wizard), and a trak tooth( an SK) with him...
