Red players are like mormons... I'm convinced that in order to be considered a full member of the community you have to start threads similar to this one and convert three players over and they all have to have level 20 or greater toons. Only then are you not spawncamped into oblivion.
Sorry red =(

it's not bipolar dysfunction. it's simple really: they need new people to grief off the server.

I'm not advocating anyone go over there (yet) and do consider myself red. Nilberg has stepped up to making things more classic. I would recommend anyone to play on a true classic RZ server tho.

Well honestly I think it has to do with basic resentment over the fact that whatever happens on red really doesn't matter even though its their preferred playstyle....
And to be blunt blue doesn't matter all that much in the gaming scheme of things either, but the issue is relatively blue matters of a heck of a lot more. People put so much time into EQ overall and it matters on a basic level that its recognized.
If blue had 150 people also... they probably wouldn't care.

Dunno what you people are talking about. I level in red99 pretty casually and can still find myself in at least 2-3 pvp situations a night. If you try to play soloquest by going out of your way to level in zones no one ever goes to then yes, its going to seem lonely. However if you go where all the ZEM hotspots are , you will be sure to find pvp.

Not to mention the inflation isn't ridiculous.
Potentially you could farm FS swords over there still to buy what you need, whereas blue you gotta be hustling accounts, getting involved in Jboot racketeering, duping, RMTs and powerlevelling people to truly have "wealth".

Depends on the person. If you're power leveling, you just go in to wreck the other guy/anyone not in your crew. I felt so bad one time after I killed a guy, Barrack, after he ran into split paw while I was PLing someone, and without word spoken he started trying to solo a dog. I had hidden, and my friend (lowbie) had been watching him. He said Barrack was charming the mob but that was wrong just an assumption of his I guess. Charming a mob is an aggressive act - or could be - especially after running in through the zone without saying a word. Then my friend says the guy was at half health. As I finished meming Starfire, I see the guy running for the exit. Exploded him single cast. Splat! Then I moved in to see the rooted dog at half health he was trying to nuke down. Just felt so bad, because I realized after a moment, that only a true blueb would zone in and try and do something like that. I went to give him a tell only moments later, but he had already logged off... griefed off the server (at least for that night.. haven't seen him since but haven't checked)...
Anyway. It's mostly shoot first, ask questions later. I highly encourage anyone new SPEAK to ppl. Talk to thm and ask to group or state your intentions before just doing shit, or before you assume the other guy will just try and murder you. Ask someone if they want to group up etc. You might make a friend if you actually talk to ppl. And almost any red will try and help you out if he knows you're legit new to the server and not just another nihilum alt.
In general, ppl usually prefer to group and get exp instead of PvP. But you have to be clear about your intention to group with them, or at least not bother them.
Once in a blue moon you'll come across a Chewie or Kimm, who will kill you regardless, but that is rare. O and also watch out for the random twink or two parked in unrest for griefing purposes. Some bros got level 22 rogues with epics and fungis there for the purposes of "cleansing" the area.

You really meet both types. Some people are scumbags... want to trade sow for clarity? BOOM, that sow turned into a nuke and shit kicks off :p You get to know who's friendly, who doesn't want to be friendly and stuff.
Only been corpse camped once by some nubtard from FoH...most people, if they kill you, get their pound of flesh and move on.

I realize that, and knew someone would bring it up, not realizing what I was really pointing out. If you played on Rallos, you realized quickly that unless your twink gear was no drop and/or you roved around in gangs like, say, the guild Darkenbane on live, you'd better not be wearing all that godly gear in pvp (or else learn to bag quickly), thus leveling the playing field pretty considerably. You even had to be careful while using a Wurmslayer as they could be disarmed to the ground (unless you had an open slot or a big enough bag--saw it happen once on live).
When Red went live on p99, it didn't take long to realize what "having no fear of losing your uber items in pvp" was going to do to the server for both casuals and people who started late. They just had no chance. At all.

Yet here they are despite saying they would quit
You still have a few PvP champions that really enjoyed red like Zyrino on red, they'd tell you its not as much of a career ender as the exiled blue server players (read leadership of current raid guild) would have you think. They just lose some of their non-classic advantage on an ffa pvp server.

Rogean and Null.. the other people who made the rules. And yeah, the majority of players as well.
The ui and content issues you mentioned; that's my area. That's the way it should be regardless of the server you played on. The ruleset for pvp (i.e. item loot) is different because it was different depending on the server.

Null's gone, so I'll X that from the list.
Rogean (recent meme and kidding aside) does and has done alot, but I wouldn't put him down as an EQ PvP historian or expert.
Item loot adds a dimension of the game for people who aren't interested in contesting raid mobs, but rather, operate as gankers and outlaws. Players spent their entire RZ careers PvPing and PKing for items.
Item loot was removed from teams servers or never existed on SZ because of cross teaming being an issue.
Item loot was always a part of the FFA PvP server design. The people who are primarily interested in playing for PvP will seek this, those who are afraid of losing their precious pixels or, moreover, not having to risk them in PvP will be against it. "Modern" (imo games are really taking a step back from world design, so I hate to even use this word) MMOs are all about the easy, daily quest, on rails experience and do not have item loot (darkfall is an abomination and doesn't count imo).
XP loss was a very bad idea from the get go. PvPing in planar gear isn't as bad as people try to make it out to be.
Go with classic, I know you have it in you.

With SoE games in the past there are premium (those who pay monthly) players and F2P players. F2P players have to pay for extra inventory slots, extra character creation slots, extra classes. I'm not opposed to that model as long as this is all unlocked with premium.
I do NOT like being nickled and dimed to play a game and will be quitting pretty quick if there are play altering items/bonuses available from the cash store.
I'm still on the fence with paying extra money to unlock certain zones. IE: Split Paw is basically DLC and you need to pay 1.99 to be able to access it.

I will constantly try to goad you into making classic changes. People get to used them and come to appreciate them.
The FFA rule set server (Rallos) had item loot classic through Velious.
There should be no mish-mashing of the rules! Further, Red99 has every reason to ascend from what people currently see it as and, in time, be recognized as the most classic and respected emulated EQ PvP server created.
Brad himself stated the PvP servers were his favorites.
Nostalgia over pixels. All day, errday.

Agreed on the micro transactions, poor effort from 95% of games out there to give an edge to people willing to pay more for the edge. League of Legends is about the only game (with skins/access to extra champs/characters) that's got it right so far given that you can buy champs with IPs and some great champs cost very little. Nobody I know of pays for shit like IP boosts.
As for denied access to certain zones unless you pay 1.99? GTFO, that's a step too far. If there's a monthly subscription in place I want access to 100% of the created content.
