View Full Version : Breakdown of races and classes (and combos) played on P99 server

As I became increasingly bored sitting in the EC tunnel, several people were discussing in /ooc which classes were overplayed. As bored as I was (and since I have always wondered this myself--and love making graphs and tables--I thought I would look at the numbers--/w all half bard, etc.). Since I compiled the numbers anyway I thought I might as well post them. These likely aren't exactly representative of the server population, given the day and time (a Thursday at 11 in the evening), so take them with a grain of salt. I always say "play what you like" (who doesn't?), but it is still interesting to see the breakdown. The first image is the total numbers for each class by race. The two separate graphs show the class and race breakdowns (notice that Shamans and Monks are likely underestimated, but to what extent IDK). Enjoy!

Idk I tested around 2pm CST today and Druids by far outnumbered any class on the server at the time. Both Dru's and Necros outnumbered Shaman.

Yeah, for this to me more accurate, you'd have to do this several times and average them all out.

I might reach a point where I actually query for this, and should be able to give more specific numbers server-wide. Don't let me forget ;)

Could you do it in the same manner Uthgaard did? His graph was incredibly informative:

I was not--did not even know there was such a feature. Thanks! I am gonna run these later and update the tables/graphs.

I'm surprised at the number of humans. This makes me.think a lot of the count was FP/EC mules. The high number of monks helps too, I'm sure. =p

I wouldn't be surprised in the number of monks was driven primarily by monks. I think when I run the numbers again, using the "/who all total" I might try to discount players under level 10 or so to cut out the mules (at least, I assume there aren't many mules higher than level 10, but you never know).

It would be really great if we had something like the WoW census that shows race/class by server. It would help new players see what classes the server is low on and might help with the indecisiveness. Although, perhaps it should only count players above a certain level.

I would assume you mean "the number of humans was driven by monks." Also remember that many races are limited as to how many classes they can be (Ogre, Troll, Barb can only be three) while Human can be anything but Shaman. I think its a combination of 1) Humans can be all but one class, 2) EC mules and 3) Monks are a very popular class and roughly 1/2 will be human.

Updated figures (as promised) are below. I did these last night at 10 p.m. using the /who all count command, rather than just /w all, so all anon and roleplaying are listed. I did not put a level cap on this, though.

Population breakout by class for: All, Levels 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-59, 60. This is total population of unbanned characters on Blue server. Leaving actual numbers off (because the crazies will make obvious judgements that no one else cares about).

Wow, I was in a group today in KC with a Pally, SK and a Ranger, plus Shaman, Rogue + me. 3 different Hybrids in one group. Rare as hell and Hardly any XP for all of us lol. :D

I am sort of surprised about how few SK's there are on the graph. Seems to be as many of them as Warriors?? Well maybe not more, but more if you know what I mean lol. Paladins, Rangers I can believe.

The classes are more balanced population wise then I thought and fact that so many enchanters are still playing at 60 is encouraging..

There are a lot of 60 enchanters but I would say that a lot of them are inactive. People rolled enchanters like crazy early on because they knew what they were capable of this time around. Not everyone kept playing one as their main.

From what I can see in-game, Shadow Knights are a popular alt class but most of them seem to run out of gas and get shelved in the low/mid 50's.

Which is supported by the data: SKs are a solid 5% of the population until they drop to 3% of the L51-59 and only 2% of the L60 populations. I want to know where all these L60 clerics are, guess they are a popular alt class.

Cool info.

Ephi I'm curious about the query you used. Is this accounting for all characters ever created on the server, or perhaps only those that have logged on in the last x days? I think a lot of these could be skewed based on people making level 1 trader toons, classes played during different time periods etc.

I think stats on characters that have been played in the last 30, 60, 90 days would be a far better indication of how things actually are on any given night than if we queried for all classes, ever.

I'm an Erudite Wizard so I'm the rarest!

Erudite and Wizards are both rare by themselves but when you pair them together they are a common combination.

Erudites are not common for paladins clerics or sks so it brings the number of erudites.

For example a human is more common than an erudite but a human wizard will be rarer than an erudite wizard.
