Post 7-14 Patch, I cannot start a level 51+ bard song if I have a green player targetted. This should not be the case.
If I target a player after I've started a 51+ song, the song remains active and does not stop.
If I have a green con player grouped with me, they receive the effects of the 51+ songs.
Same with group heroism. Won't let me cast if I have a green player targeted.

Aren't bard songs exempt from the 51+ rule because they are always group-only?

i think its because they moved bard songs to buff window (perhaps changing songs to buffs category)
maybe i dunno

Are they doing the check for low-level buffs based on what you have targeted?

Confirmed I couldn't play selo's song of travel because I had a lowbie targeted after trading in the tunnel.

Can someone provide classic evidence or more commentary about this? Starting a spell on a lower level should be the case for spells, but I'm not sure about songs, especially if they function properly after casting on a level appropriate target.
kanras will be the one looking into this, but it would be nice to have specifics worked out asap. Could be that songs should be excluded altogether.

Does the targets level matter when im buffing myself? I haven't read the info the change was based on but I would think Selos song of travel should be able to cast no matter what when I'm not grouped right?

I do not know how to provide evidence, but bard songs should be exempt altogether. I even had an issue casting selos song of travel when i had a low level dead mob targeted. There should not be a target check for group buff songs.
I played during classic and bard songs were exempt from this. Thanks,

This is also the case for high-lvl self-buffs, for which the target should be irrelevant. For example, I can't cast Demi Lich if I have a low-lvl player targetted.

God damnit, the low-level target bug is classic, and it affects bard songs:

Is there a level cap for this song - 2/2/01 10:52:09 PM

Is there a certain level cap forthis song, such as if someone is in your group who is much lower than you, will they receive the songs effects?

Well, yes and no. If you have a lower level PC targeted, you cannot play the song. But even if the same lower level char is in your group, you CAN play it, and he or she will get the benfit of it, as long as he or she is not targeted.
So while bard songs will still affect the entire party regardless of level, targeting a low level person and attempting to sing the song (cast the spell) will result in the error. I'll keep looking for additional evidence. I've gone through all the 51+ buff songs for bards on EQDiva, and that's the only mention I can find. Looking into other bard resources now.
when i have a corpse targeted songs don't work either
