So I have only really been playing EQ for a couple weeks now, so I am sure this isn't going to be some surprise to any of you. But when I saw this shit I was I thought it was the most insane thing ever, I had to FRAPS it lol.
I come out of Paw to see if theres anything to solo outside, since I cant really get any groups atm. When I run out a lil bit I see a dude running anyway from what looked like 1 or 2 mobs. So I am like, Ok Ill go root one and heal the guy to help him out. When I get up closer I see theres like 10 things on him so, I was like alright eff healing him then it isnt even going to matter hes dead anyway. Then I notice the ground is covered in bodies everywhere! And this dude is just running circles around the area killing everyone!!! I was like WTF ?!?!?! Is this guy for real?? So I /who him, Lvl 26 Bard named Bono.
My mind was blown, so I frapsed it. Best thing I have seen in this game so far, hands down. This dude is insane.

ps: I know the video quality is crap, the frasped video was 1.97gigs, when I compressed it with WMM it made it terrible =( But no way I am gona upload 2 gigs to youtube lol.

I've watched Bono do his swarm kiting magic several times. He was like... level 23 yesterday. It's ridiculous. :D

I thought it's impossible for bards to swarm kite on this server due to hit boxes?

Yeah I was SoWing him so he could miss selos twist while I quad kited gnolls. Takes a lot of skill to AE kite like that. Swarm kiting with charm is easy. I tried on my Bard to do some AE kiting with just 2-3 mobs to see if I could get the DoT on them without being hit and I couldn't do it the whole fight so I never tried. When you get to like 10-15 mobs it's instant death if you get in melee range once.
Oh and it takes like 10-15 minutes to finish a single kite like this, it's great exp but too taxing for me in terms of paying attention for so long on a single kill over and over.

Are you guys kidding or do you really think he's using some macro program? If he had SoW, like was said, I can sort of see it happening. I saw something like that on Live back in the day, and I don't think programs to do that stuff even existed at that time.
I mean, if he's running using the mouse, he could easily (okay not easily) be doing some crazy twisting on the keyboard.

Twisting isnt hard guys, everyone makes it sound difficult lol

lol
Bono got it from me.
I'm Tamborine, anyone seen me in EK from about 16-24?
I was aoe kiting over 50 mobs (at once) at times.
Good job Bono, keep up the good work. We need to show everyone that just because our melee dps stinks, we can still rock the house. (no pun intended)

I'd love to learn to swarm kite like this. I am level 17 now, and am wondering what the correct songs are to use for swarm kiting. I do not even know the basics, to be honest. Do you cycle your targets and re-cast the DoT, while also twisting in selos? I don't mean to hijack the thread but if anybody has any tips I am all ears!
Fried Chicken! Yum :)
Bards make epic kiters, if you have the patience for a lengthy kite. I played a druid back in Live, and never ceased to be amazed at the stuff some bards could pull off. For my short attention span, quadding is more my speed.

I claim BS, since I just dragged your corpse from where you took a dirt nap about 50 feet from the zone line in CT last night. Where was all the AOE kiting then? You had the entire CT courtyard free to work your magic! :) haha

The magic isn't what songs you twist (Chords of Dissonance, Denon's Disruptive Discord, and Selo's) Its the positioning of your character

Lol Yes this is real guys no programs, even Rogean came to check it out to see for himself. Bono said he gains a yellow every pull, however each pull takes like 20mins total. Between rounding it all up, getting it bunched together and then killing them. He also said he dies every now and then too from lag, even 1 second spike of lag = death, when you 30 things on you lol. It looks fun but yeah, really risky and need to practice it alot before you can pull it off easily like Bono does.

BAH!
I was lvl 26 when you did that. Im running out of areas to pull of a successful aoe kite. There isn't much left. I was seeking out a place to do so. The courtyard is all green.

Since the mobs are always heading directly towards you if you have a faster run speed you can run a circle around them of a specific size that keeps you just out of melee but in song range. Finding that sweet spot though is rather difficult and as stated a tiny bit of lag means you die in addition to things taking 15 minutes to finish.
Personally though I feel that if you're gonna AE kite you should pull a lot more mobs than this. You're dead if you get in melee range anyway and the time is the same regardless. I would have added in all the gnoll spawns, centaurs, etc. Anything that doesn't cast spells.

Well, as you said above, you don't want to pull so many that you create video lag and die. I would think that there's probably an upper limit related to the power of his graphics card.

Do the Aviaks have smaller hit boxes than giant scarabs and giant spiders? I can't seem to get this down, I literally run smaller and smaller circles around those, and cannot hit them unless I am within their hit range.

Tried kiting for the first time in SK last night. I have a lvl 23 almost 24 bard and I couldnt get it efficiently. I didnt die but it took way too long and I was only kiting four mobs tops. Just couldnt find the sweet spot to get the dot to land and not get hit and stunned most of the time.

I used to do pretty good as a bard.
I have played bard for 7 years and did:charm kiting and dot kiting and aoe kiting.
If the game is anything like it was in kunark era or planess era, then i can safely say that dot kiting is still in action and aoe may be possible.
I am not sure 100% though.
Charm kiting becomes very very strong at level 65 for soloing as a bard.
I know because i used to camp the hobgoblins for xp and cash.
What is the max level? and should i ever replay a bard,is aoe useful again?

Necro thread!
Charm kiting doesn't work on this server because hate does not pass to the pet, it falls to the bard so on recharm all the mobs ignore the new pet.

It takes some practice to find the sweet spot, but once you get it it pays massive dividends. I was averaging about a level every 2 hours 18-26 doing it. It starts to get harder to find good areas to kite masses of blue mobs (it's hard to get enough in SK it's so overcamped) around 28+ I've noticed. I've grouped the last few levels and sure do miss that exp. :P

My Bard's 12, and has been doing it since 8. It's very effective, you just have to be (extremely) patient and flexible while you learn the ticks.
I had a ton of HP gear, and kiting 20+ mobs I usually had one round of hits worth of a buffer zone before they dropped me. If I made a mistake and got hit/stunned, I had to get out of their range immediately and twist in healing song with a lute for a while to heal before attempting it again. That's part of the patience...
A really good place to start is gfay - I found that grabbing non-caster orcs and the willowisps that spawn near the newb lift and near felwithe were good practice before I went to NK.
Also, Beetles (even the giant ones), Griffawns, Bears, and Cats mostly have average hit boxes and are great kiting material. Lions have big hit boxes for some reason, I avoid them. I've heard Crag Spiders have big hit boxes too, but haven't tried them yet.

I've had a very hard time swarm kiting at lvl 30 and above. It seems like Selo's is so fast that I can't turn sharp enough to hit the mobs with my dots, unless I take off the drums, and then I run too slow and they catch up too easily. =/
Lyrik
11-19-2010, 03:47 PM
It gets tricky at that level, you can hold down turn because the mob isn't moving fast enough so you have to tap the turn key A WHOLE LOT MORE :(
It hurts a ton. I look forward to not relying on bellows for kiting giants so I can get some more range on them and use all chants, but yeah.

So I should be using my drum for Selos even if it outruns the mobs anyways?
