If you have plat you can level a new toon to 5 or 6 on about 24 Crushbone Belts in Kaladim (hand them in to Canloe Nusback (?) in the Warrior Guild) for 12-24 plat, but if you don't have plat you're SOL... you didn't mention class and race (and locale) so if you do that peeps might have more specific advice for you... once you hit 4-5 you can do orc hill in GFaydark and gather belts free but by that time they don't have much bang for the buck.

Are you sure you're not seeing people that are twinked, or buffed by a high level? That can make a world of a difference. Also, what class/race combo are you right now?

People getting to level 9 in an hour are getting power leveled by high level players.

Level 5 in 9 hours seems about right for classic EQ. That's assuming you didn't spend any time talking to NPCs, exploring, getting lost, getting killed etc.

The fastest way to level is with a group of people of similar level to you. Stick with them. If somebody leaves the group be proactive and find a replacement. If you outl-evel the area take charge and tell them what area you should all move to together.

It's amazing how much you can accomplish in the game if you stick with a group.

Others will mention solo classes. But it's not actually the quickest, it just means you never have to be sitting around looking for group when there isn't one available.

If that's your preference then mage, and druid are probably the easiest classes to start with. I would say necro too but you sound like you're new to the game. If so, the faction issues might make it a stiff learning curve.

mage or necro is fastest for soloing unless they fix the pet experience penalty

When I started my main it took me almost as long to do level 1-5 as it did to go from 10-20. When you start with nothing and don't know anyone on the server, life can be tough. Especially when you're in halas and that damn Vengeful Soloist sneaks up and ganks you when you finally have that polar bear cub down to 10% health.

Your best bet is to make the character you like most. If you simply want a character that well XP the fastest, then I suppose a Halfling warrior would be good. Unless of course you group, in which case your bonus and other members' penalties would be shared.

A warrior is a fun class to play, but can be tough, and you may want to forget about the XP penalty altogether and just roll a class with a lot of utility, i.e. a druid, until you get a good handle on the game.

I leveled with a necro relatively fast, but I leveled even faster with my barb shaman. I solo'd with the necro from 1-50 (pretty much) and it was quite fast, at one point I managed to go from 41-44 in a single day. It was very quick (less than a month, but I did spend some time screwing around), but it wasn't as quick as my shaman whom i got PLed and grouped to 50. This took about 3 weeks, but he was very twinked.

Generally speaking, necros and mages are the fastest levelers in the game, simply because they've the choice to solo, which they do extremely well, or gain exp with a group. If you choose not to make one of these two pet classes, then I'd suggest getting a brazier of elemental summoning which summons a lvl 12 fire pet and lasts until you zone or log out. Go to blackburrow, summon it and stay there for as long as you can, collecting gnoll teeth.

Yes, you will have quite the exp bonus with that combination!
Only thing better in terms of bonuses is a halfling rogue.

(You won't notice though unless you have another character to compare it to without the bonus, or a penalty.)

Tentacle whip is 10-25p and procs lifetap at level 1. Its not super great, but it helps keep your health up a little. I think gnoll hide lariats are pretty cheap too. They proc stun, which should be pretty decent aggro at low levels.

LOTS of different combinations, but here's one I would do for a human monk

WFP/EFP til about level 4. Random EC trash til 10. East commonland orc camps til about 10-12. Oasis of Marr Crocs/Orcs til 15. Unrest Trash and first level house to 18-20. Upper guk scryer group 18-24. Mistmoore Graveyard til high 20s. Sola Foreman camp to about 34. Solb/lowerguk til 50. Scenery change from 34-50 could include Cazic Thule, Butcherblock guards, Oggok guards, OoT.. Honestly should just bounce back and forth from Lower Guk to Solb though

hope this helps

No offense but I wouldn't go halfling warrior. Warriors require good gear to be able to hold aggro unless you're tanking blue cons all the time which is rare until higher levels. On top of that halflings make a somewhat poor warrior because of their horrible str/sta starting stats. That's why they have the highest exp bonus in game.. they suck.

Whatever you do decide to make though if you want to level really fast go to East Commonlands and beg for buffs at the tunnel. All you need are a HP buff, regen (druid/shaman), and damage shield (mage/druid). Now hit every mob at least once because DS damage doesn't count. They kill themselves on damage shield while regen heals you. Level 1-10 in a couple hours.

High Elf or Erudite Magician. High Elf if you want to be in gfay and have easy access to Crushbone, Erudite if you want to be close to Blackburrow. Avoid Dark Elf, you'll be KOS in too many places and it sucks having to carefully con every humanoid to make sure you can walk by them. Eventually you will forget/get lazy/slip up and you'll die to Guard Wandersaround. If you're high level, the XP loss from such an avoidable slipup can be a heartbreaker.

Solo XP is by far better than group XP and is always available, and Magician is easier to play than freakin' WoW.

25 points into STA, 5 into INT. None of your other stats really matter in the long run.

You won't get to be in all the glamorous party places solo (the "party zones" are just too heavily camped for a solo to scrape off enough kills to be competitive) but honestly, you'll be outleveling them twice as fast as the poor grouplings are, especially with the new hybrid group xp penalty. And if you want to group for some reason, most groups will be happy to leech off you.

EDIT: DO NOT BE A WARRIOR.

A couple things - for lowbie leveling, stick around the EC tunnel till 12 or 13. You can bum buffs and kill in EC and NRO quite well these days. In my day... blah blah blah.

Second, don't make a halfling warrior. You'll have about half the stamina and strength of ogres until you get fully geared, then 2/3s. And I'm talking through kunark and velious, you'll be gimped. Make a large race.
