sorry if this is lame or obvious... lag is out of control, ping keeps climbing, unlike a connection prob.

Ya I just tried to swap characters to res someone and it booted me out entirely and I can't even get into the login screen, so it's not just P1999 thats having issues, it's probably the whole EMU LS.

Same thing happens to me. No server list, random errors when trying to connect.

Posting an update on the EQ EMU forums also, though I suspect they scarcely need it.
It was very sudden.
If it was just the log ins, it wouldn't have done this.
It does look very much like either a bizarre bug or some form of attack/overload.

EqEmulator's site, Project1999's, and the login server are all taking 3+ minutes to load. I hope someone isn't attacking them :( I read something about this on project 1999's forum back in October someone attacked the server.

If it's a dds attack again, it's going to be a needle in a haystack to come up with potential attackers this time around.
On the plus side: it would be one thing IB wouldn't be blamed for :)
edit: got in! ressed someone... got booted right back out.. heh

It's all loading very fast but the server disconnected me again.
Something isn't totally nifty, but it's "better".
Oh and new record for most on the forums at one time!

Yeah it wasn't server side. No packet loss all latency. 2to1 guild drama ddos, 50to1 a monk went off the deep end after mend nuking himself ddos.

It was exactly server side. Latency does not increase that way unless a circuit is constantly degrading worse and worse (unlikely) or the server is failing.
Or the server slowly moved to China.
(Eidt, not that im complaining)

at first it seemed like a problem for eq emu, but after a while all other servers (ie. grand creation) went back up, except for p99, which is still down, and no not even on the server list.

While this is going down (if you can't access P1999) they DO have a test server running! 'under construction - testing' I'm not sure what the load capacity is... but this is a prime place and time to advertise its existence!
EDIT:
holy crap I think I just made the test server crash :(
