EQNext is a standalone game, not an expansion.

they have been very tight lipped. but they are revealing a bunch Aug 1, at the SoE Live convention. so dont expect much of anything until then.

Yeah if they take cues from eve online, it could be great. Like local banking, etc

Im not holding my breath though because you cant make a gazillion dollars without aiming for the lowest common denominator, so i think only kickstarter devs could make something like this happen, beside maybe CCP who already have the playerbase interested in a real sandbox.

SOE really can't make good games, they buy good games then ruin them

Ofcourse that might change, but i doubt it

I read a thing about them scrapping a portion of it and starting over; about the same time that they brought Brad back into their Dev team for EQlive moving forward and "other SoE releases" aka EQNext. Smells very Vanguardish to me, and also like they hurried up to get a press release's worth of material ready by August

I tried Planetside 2, can't help choosing big vehicles and just running my own team down in a big line charging into battle.

Or just gunning my own team down randomly, like after resing me or when they look new running around.

As for the actual game I suck at it and usually die.

I'll try EQnext for sure, Nizzar99 is stagnant.

I just hope they're smart enough to use the original graphic style with modern touches and not that horrid plastic look that they went with for EQ2.

According to mmorpg.com, there will be a "complete reveal" at EQ Live, not just a press release. That said,

boycott sony won't play, especially if EQ next is anything like everquest live, everquest 2, vangaurd... ect ect

They have taken every other one of their games and made them more casual with recent patches. EQ2 is very sandbox, but the combat is basically just hit 2-3 keys and watch procs fire off randomly. Both weapons and armor have procs, so it is a monster of a gear grind. PS2 felt a lot the same way in that it was an endless vehicle spawn. I probably could have gotten into that game more if there weren't 5 jets and 5 tanks for every soldier.

When Sony says "sandbox" I think they just mean they will let you decorate your own player housing. I wouldn't expect anything more hardcore than that.

the project bankrupted and content was sold and released as dragon age

the current game is worth 0 which is why its not being advertised. If anything is released don't expect anything but a lousy wow clone for idiots who level via quests.

SOE Made pop the greatest eq expansion ever

Luclin also was superb as well as omens, gates and many others

Pre luclin eq was stupid and pointless and offers no progression

PS if you play eq just for pvp you have brain damage

PoP kept eq from an earlier death, that's about it. The content was phenomenal, and on blue it could easily be considered the best expansion.

However on the Zeks you had to deal with faggots who would only pvp near pok books so they could easily escape, and retards going afk in PoK until their guild decided to raid. Became extremely hard to find real constant pvp action unless you were in high keep or something.

Luclin however, was a giant shit fest that almost killed the game. The only good thing about that entire expansion was the bazaar. The content was a shitty, ridiculously stupid time sink.

I'm not even gonna regard the later expansions you mentioned as the Zeks were already basically dead by that point (almost all of the major names had left by then, a few stuck around but they had to carry people they considered brain dead for the longest time). While the pve content was decent, the pvp had become slightly absurd because of how much survival every class had and how long you could drag out every fight.

I always thought that pvp in PoK and PoTranquility could have been tons of fun. All the places to hide, and the books could still let you run away from pvp but you'd have to be smart about it.

They decided to enable pvp in those zones once, but I don't think it lasts for more than a couple hours before the zones continually crashed and they brought the servers back down.

I had got home from work hopped on and got AIMed that pvp was enabled, tried to log in lagged out and servers crashed :(

Do you really think Sony gave 2 shits about EQ lore? They warped and changed the amazing foundation that Verant gave them to a point where almost nothing made sense anymore.

Sony's concern is and always has been this: money. Whatever will attract new people to their games and servers is what matters. Nerds like us who knew and became addicted to the lore meant nothing because we were already hooked.

Dunno what you talking about rallos was a pvp fest in valor with allt he curse players and necros like runya that could kill entire groups pretty easily.

How do you die in PoV? Nobody fought far enough away from the entrance so it was stupidly easy to get out. Which is what happened on Tallon, if you were engaged on by someone with much superior gear...regardless of numbers there was a bailout.

Same could be said for every zone, and even with guilds on a somewhat even gear footing. Fights would take place at the tranquility portout, and deaths would rarely happen because the second you lost crucial buffs or got low you'd click out. PoP discouraged actual pvp from taking place.

I feel that PoTranq was implemented poorly for tons of reasons, and enabling pvp would have been a cheap and lazy fix to something ruined from the get go. If a proper plane of tranquility were introduced, disallowing pvp in it could have actually been really cool.

Like imagine if there was some crazy chaotic battle being waged constantly (preferably over something somewhat petty- but then what war isn't?), by NPCs and players alike. In the middle of this bloody mess of bodies, there's a small and unassuming ring on the ground, apparently dropped there and forgotten amidst the anarchy. You stop to consider it, and pick it up (click).

Then you're on a somewhat large island (kinda like PoTranq in game now, but without all the distracting stuff that ports you places, and with old grass look). There's nothing on it, except in the center where you can find Quellious quietly meditating beneath a tree, with a smile on her face. Gate spells don't work here, but to leave (why would you??), you simply target yourself, Quellious, or another player.
