It's pretty laughable and terrible, and yes I was a pretty big nerd for writing fan fiction about my favorite past time. However, reading it took me back to some of my early memories of EverQuest.

I actually wrote 4 more parts that were all posted on Everlore.com that date back to 2002, so if there's interest to read terrible fan fiction from a 13 year old, I'll post more. For the record, I had a boner for iksar monks and Freeport, hence the setting.

Stark Reality Part 1
Zander of Innoruuk | 9/18/2002 11:13:36 AM
Cold was this night, colder than any night of the year. The wind could be heard blowing loudly across the trees. Snow was falling from the sky in large quantities. So cold was it that in 5 minutes your whole body would go numb. Most people were inside protected. However that is not the case of the person I will be talking about.

Wandering past the gates of West Freeport was a cloaked traveler. The traveler was stumbling in their walk and looked like they were about to collapse. It stumbled all the way along to North Freeport. The traveler was just outside the Green Jade Inn and could walk no more. The shadowed person fell to the floor because of frostbite and pain, and out of the traveler popped a tail from the cloak. The cloaked person banged on the door with the last ounce of strength. The innkeeper opened and saw the wanderer laying there with very little strength at all left. Right before the cloaked person died it pulled back its cloak from its face. With a gaping glare the innkeeper almost screamed. The traveler was a female Iksar. The Iksar said one thing, and that one thing changed the innkeeper’s life. “Take this,” and that was all. Then the Iksar passed on to another place.

The innkeeper, whose name was Gelatin, wondered what to do. “What could this thing be,” he said aloud. He peered under the Iksar’s cloak, and there was a basket. “Hmm maybe there is food,” he thought. He peaked under the soft cover of the basket, and to his astonishment there was a baby. This was not an ordinary baby to bee seen in Freeport though. This was an Iksar. The baby Iksar was wearing a necklace too. The necklace contained a bright, glittering jewel. Quickly he grabbed the baby and brought it in.

*18 years later*
Today was an important day. In fact, it was the most important day of Zander’s life. Today he was joining the Monk Guild. He would be the first Iksar ever in all of Freeport’s history to tryout for the Monk Guild. “Hurry or you’ll be late Zander!” exclaimed Gelatin. “I’m going as fast as I can.” Zander had trained night and day to join the Monk Guild. “Wait before you go I have a surprise for you,” Gelatin said. Zander walked up to Gelatin surprised. It was a light leather tunic. Zander tried it on and it fit perfectly and felt as light as a feather. “Thanks, it is perfect!” gratefully exclaimed Zander.

Zander rushed out the door and hurried to the Monk Guild in West Freeport. He hailed a few people on the way including a Dwarf and Half Elf. He barely arrived on time at the Monk Guild. Only two of the four were selected to be in the Monk Guild, and he was sure he would make it. Velan Torresk was holding the tryouts. Besides getting into the Guild, the two winners also received the White Sash.

“Hail all and well met! Only two of today’s finalists will be selected. These two are the ones who have mastered the beginning stages of the monk. Good luck to all!” Velan Torresk explained that the tryouts would take place in the Arena. The monk Zander was matched up to fight against was a hugely built man named Saris. Saris looked like he had worked hard, but Zander was sure he could beat him.

The battle started out and Saris rushed at him trying to kick him. When Saris kicked, Zander landed a block and countered with a punch. It was a direct hit. Saris was thrown back and almost fell down. This time Zander came in for the attack. He tried to do a kick, but Saris grabbed Zander’s foot. Luckily seeing Iksars have strong tails, Zander swung his tail at Saris and tripped him. Saris got up and charged at Zander. Zander did a flip over Saris and kicked out his feet behind him and kicked Saris on the back, and that was all it took. Saris let out a loud yell and the fight was over. Zander had won.

Velan Torresk congratulated Zander on his triumph. Velan awarded him and the other winner, a human monk named Silak who was very quick and agile, the White Sash. They were both members of the Monk Guild now.

dudes, you were kids. I think it's pretty cool. I mean, that you did it, not the fan fiction. Not a huge fan of fan fiction myself hehe

Fan fiction writers are a bit like wine or cheese; good specimens are aged in a dark basement for many years before they reach the necessary levels of immersion.

Lol nice!

I used to write EQ erotica stories just for fun. It was mostly play by plays of hot cyber.
No real plots, just elves geting down to bidness.

You should continue the story.

Very nice. Fanfiction was always a treat to read. Did you ever continue the story, or continue writing in general?

Yeah I have 4 more sections to that story. I never really concluded it though. They aren't horribly interesting heh.

I minored in English in college and have taken a few creative writing classes, but textual analysis tends to interest me more than creating my own fiction. If all goes as planned, I'll be teaching English/writing in a high school in two falls from now.

I'm a college professor and your grammar does not impress me. Clearly you have some work to do.

Just kidding (about not impressing me). Keep writing!

Nice, then you can make the students write EQ fan fiction.

Hah, that's funny. Students these days don't know anything outside of rap music, youtube, and reality shows.
