It's time for a new computer chair. I'm spending more time sitting on my ass, in front of the screen. My neck, back are beginning to hurt. I bought a cheap chair from Staples or some shit like 3 years ago and it's just not cutting it.
Like most things in life, I believe you typically get what you pay for. If I am going to be spending long periods of time sitting at my desk, I want to be comfortable. I'm willing to drop some decent $ for a good chair. A Google search for "ergonomic desk chair" yields lots of results, mostly fancy-looking, very expensive chairs ($500+) I would spend the $500 or more, if I knew it was worth it.
What chairs do you guys use? Are you satisfied, does it help support your back, and how much did you spend?

I should take better care of my back, I'm always slouched or hunched over at the computer desk and it does cause me some pain... probably going to be like a lot of my generation in 20-30 years and have chronic back trouble :D

I should look into this as well. $500 seems a lot for a chair, think how much it cost them to make.

You're a retard if you throw down $500 on some overpriced executive chair from Staples. The most ergonomic chairs are those low-back, basic office chairs that look like this

Source: I used to work CSR for Apple. This is the exact kind of we were required to use in order for Apple not to have any legal liability for back pain due to sitting for long periods.

Oh, well, if Apple uses those chairs, they must certainly be the best in the world.

Or, maybe apple just too cheap, more like it. I bet the apple executive chairs aren't those :)

Having one of those chairs is only half the battle, you need to sit in it properly as well (stating the obvious but how many of us slouch when we're sat down for a few hours?)

Yeah I grabbed an executive office chair from Sam's Club several years back and it still is doing solid. The back goes all the way past your head, very comfy. I think I paid right around $100 USD

This is my favorite chair I've ever had... StaplesŪ Dugan Gray Terry Manager's Chair

I'm 6'4 and most chairs only go 1/4 to 1/3 the way up my back. Even a typical executive chair rarely crests my shoulders when I'm looking for some head-rest action for those long camps. This one was tall enough for me, and it was damn comfy. My cat liked to scratch the shit out of it too.

Sadly my chair has seen far too many long camps and 18 hour marathon p99 sessions. Both the armrests are broken, and without their support, the back of the chair bends back at a 30' angle when I sit in it. Every day it creaks and groans and leans a little tiny bit more. Some day it's going to break and then I don't know what I'll do... this model is discontinued :( Mamas dont let your babies grow up to be neckbeards

I snagged a Serta office chair with adjustable back support and leather from officemax for 150 on black friday. Regularly went for 300.

(Serta recliner/chair hybrid)

That's the one I want to get. I went into the store and sat in it, but it was listed for the full $300 price and I wasn't gonna pay that... waiting for it to go on sale.

I've read questionable reviews about it though. People seem to have problems with the hydraulic height adjuster giving out and lowering on them as they sit in it... but I suspect a lot of people having that problem are pretty damn heavy.

For the price I would hope it's durable... I've had much cheaper chairs last for years with an occasional tightening of the hex bolts.

The real complaint I have is that the chair sags. Granted that I am fat and heavy, but I have had less problems with non-big and tall chairs. The hydraulics on this chair do not hold up for long. The problem started in the 3rd month I had this chair.

There are two very different classes of chair being discussed here. The cheap brands in Staples and Office Max have very limited life spans--typically less than five years.

High end chairs like the Herman Miller Aeron and the Steelcase Gesture are not $500, they're about $1,000. They're also worth every penny. I had my first Herman Miller for 13 years and it took rampant abuse to finally break it. Ignoring the difference in quality and comfort, the cost per use is lower on a high end chair than on the disposable furniture at your local big box office supply store.

The only real question is whether you want to shell out a lot of cash right now or bleed it out slowly every year or two after sitting in a broken chair for a couple months.

Ephirith !! I really appreciate your view :)
It reminds me the same day when I was also in the same situation that you posted above, Really its a life of ups and down when we face such situations, we wanted to buy something but we can't !!
That's life :) :)
