Can't log in here either. Same thing happened about this time yesterday to me, as well.

I can log on briefly, but then get disconnected, and the server shows zero population.

Unless my timing is impecabble to log on precisely when the server is going down, or unless my login is somehow crashing the entire server, we seem to have a problem with login acceptance.

Booo :(

10:43 -!- Rogean changed the topic of #project1999 to: Server down, probably won't be up
any time today.

IRC is up however, so come chat while we all wait. The IRC thread is somewhere around here if you can find it. You can use mibbit.com if you're too lazy or not allowed to install an IRC client.

This is exactly why servers create backups before a patch.

Update: it was a DDoS attack (http://project1999.org/2009/10/20/server-down)

Grr...

I hope that they catch whoever's doing it and release their info. That way a little net karma can return to them a thousand-fold...

Some people just have to find a way to ruin other people's fun. Hope they find him and lock him up.

"The game server is offline until we conclude the investigation, but if this continues to happen Project 1999 may be down for much longer."

how much longer, if the worst happens? Is there no way to prevent these attacks?

Good luck in catching the sob:mad:

Get the pitchforks, light the torches! We are going witch hunting!

Not sure if pitchforks are the way to deal with this problem. I thought it was rather diplomatic, the offer to settle the differences through e-mail rather than the authorities. Best to play nice with the trolls and only hold them up to the fire if they don't go away. Sadly it sounds that they have tried this tactic before and it may not be enough.

I bet it was a SoE hireling.

That's a completely unfounded suspicion and pretty absurd to boot. I'd be willing to bet a number of SOE employees actively play on this server and want it to continue operating.

Nah; Project 1999 is pretty well-done. I think we have a good relationship, I mean we're both recreating classic EQ, why would we hate each other :p

It's kind of like when Daffy and Bugs are fighting each other about rabbit season & duck season. There's two paths, but one goal, and they both get hunted in the end.

I saw an announcement broadcasted earlier this afternoon that the eqhost was changing to 64.120.211.247:5998 but when I enter that it doesn't work, any assistence would be greatly appreciated.

just tried logging in again after restarting eqgame and it appears to be working.

You can use eqemulator.net now as well.
