Why don't you play on the Red Pvp Server?
Red and Blue have a big population difference and I want to ask why.

I don't have any interest in fighting other players...none whatsoever, unless I'm goofing around in the tunnel. Speaking of the tunnel, sometimes I find it fun just to goof around in the tunnel with other people; last time I logged into east commons in red, there was only one other person there.
In addition, I have no desire to start over and farm all the exact same gear or grind levels again on my bard. Once is enough per class.

Server population is too low. I play EQ for the camaraderie that I seem to be unable to find in other MMOs. While I am sure it exists to some extent on the Red server, it seems less likely.

Cultivate an atmosphere of quasi-friendly rivalry/competition and get some GMs/players to organize PvP events and I'd think about it. Not interested in being the subject of Billy the Kid's latest photoshop mashup.

I voted that I don't like EQ PvP, but that isn't quite accurate. I actually think classic EQ is a better game to have PvP in than the vast majority of other games. EQ PvP has something meaningful to it besides ratings or points, cause it's a competition over scarce resources.
But since I didn't start on PvP on live back in the day, I never "got" EQ PvP, so I'm on blue now because that's how I played before.
Also though, basically everything else on the list that is bad about red. Low pop, bad image, already established on blue, etc.

The populatio on red is just abysmal. I tried...I REALLY wanted to enjoy my time there. But it's a ghost town, and if I really wanted to play EQ completely alone I'd just start my own emulator. PvP on live was a blast, but mostly becuase there was a server full of other people to actually PvP with right from the first night.

Add option : PvP was an afterthought of the developers at best.
The game wasn't made with PvP in mind. It's a PvE game that had certain elements of PvP imposed after the fact. As much as I loved playing on Rallos back in the day, looking at eq PvP now its laughable.

Red is a solo game until 50's. While playing you have to also enjoy trolls and complainers.

I have seriously considered playing some red and why I haven't gone over can't be explained by one reason only.. It is a mixture of the people playing on red, the ruleset and the population.
Firstly I don't like the ruleset. Sullon Zek had a great rule set where teams were forced. Over on red 90% of the people are in Nihilum and that blows because im a perpetual fan of the underdog and I wouldnt want to be on there team - it would not be any fun! However going up against them isn't fun if you only have a very small amount of people doing it with you.
Secondly the people really turn me off to the server. RnF is fair play and I appreciate it, but some of the people I see over there create posts that really make me question whether or not I want to be on a FFA pvp server with them.
The population is of course an issue but a secondary one - if the server were different more people like me would play on it.... I seriously just don't get why everyone who goes over there joins the same guild.. that is not how pvp happens. Then nihilum people just talk shit on the forums all day, its an awful atmosphere in my opinion.
Forced teams at the conception of the server may have helped stop that from happening by at least creating some legit opposition. Heres an example of why the server is fucked: people who are not in nihilum level to 60, they get bored of having no one on their team, no way to get uber gear, and get owned by 6-1 odds in pvp. They sell their character. Who buys it? Of course the people with all the platinum buy it --> nihilum people. Now if teams were forced ala Sullon Zek, nihilum wouldnt buy that character because it wouldnt be on the same side they are on.. There are plenty of other explanations as to why forced teams = better than FFA, but Im tired and rambling =P

Imo, the only good PvP games are designed without all the devs and players being 100% focused on it.
LoL? Warcraft arenas/BGs? Lame
Eve, shadowbane, etc? Awesome.

That's not really needed though, as the poll is about peoples opinions.Your comment is an established fact about the original game's development - and likely the primary reason "I don't like EQ pvp" is the leading poll result.

I wanted to click a couple options but...
I voted that I do not like EverQuest PvP. Let's face it... it's crap and always has been. The classes are just too imbalanced at this point in EQ's timeline for PvP to truly be about player skill vs skill.
Another reason is the "type of player" drawn to this incarnation of red. There's no fun in being curbstomped because you like to play your normal class, and it sucks in low-level PvP, and then having your killer act like it was a matter of skill, experience and sagacity. Like a teenage punk that shoves an old man and claims to have "kicked his ass". Maybe it's possible that post L20 this is less of an issue and that EQ red is like the fans say: "Solve your own problems! Oh people end up being good guys and reputation keeps people in check". I doubt it. I won't play alongside griefers.
And of course, with my and my wife's playstyle (slow as hell), I'd rather not reaccrue the plat it would take for me to get all the goodies I have on blue.
Speaking for me and me alone, the "recruitment drives" of red players in blue forums also turned me off for good. It's a gut reaction, but seeing folks in desperation to save a server means I just don't want to get into it at all.

Actually, the only PvP I ever truly enjoyed was Wintergrasp in WoW. That was a fun event to me. Win, lose... didn't matter. I always had fun. I also loved how "pick up" it was.

I've thought about playing on red, but the FFA ruleset with a small population seems problematic.
Also, is red up to kunark yet? My main motivation for blue would be to play where 50 is the cap because I've never experienced that.

I have no interest in killing other players or being killed by them.
The players, the vocal ones at least, act like absolute assholes, and I have no tolerance or patience for that. (And their posts tend to read like a 10-year old mentally retarded foreigner wrote them.)

This is really my problem with Red99, too.
It's a literacy thing. Add it to the poll, please.

I voted, "I dont' like the people or... etc.".
You didn't have the one option that makes the most sense to me and for a lot of other people. Maybe it just is unthinkable to you, but the truth is:
I just plain don't like PVP, of any shape or form, in any computer game.
Full truth be told, I hate it more in EQ than anywhere else. Why? Because Everquest is just about the best damn computer game ever created. To play PVP in it would ruin it.... it is no longer Everquest, more like EverQuake.
So I suppose, like some others, I really needed to vote a combination of option 2 and 3.
And btw, you may as well not even try - there is absolutely nothing you can change about red to change my mind about red - unless you make it a second blue server. :D

Other: I have enjoyed EQ PvP in the past (although my brother and I didn't stick with it for very long). But if I want to play with my wife, it must be on a blue server. She gets stressed out too easily by griefing. She had to remove herself just the other day when some jagoff stole our camp and trained us - so red ain't happening.

I don't think this is exactly true... Becoming "red" on a blue server had basically the same mechanics as the MUDs that came before, where you gave up your "guardian angel" and became killable by other players. I belonged to an "undead" guild on one such MUD where you were required to go PK...
The problem was that so few people on any one server were interested in it... so it needed its own server to achieve critical mass. Plus it was a nifty way to get some "replayability" out of their current product.
I don't think they ever expected it would be "fair" or "balanced"... EQ by its nature was a cruel bitch of a game, why should the PvP flavor be any different?

PvP only breeds trolls and griefers. If it were forced teams or something other than Rallos rules then maybe, but this FFA "join us or be camped" mindset is terrible. I could just imagine trying to raid there, let alone leveling. Everyone on blue PL's, so how much harder is it to turn that PL into a corpse camp? No thank you.

The low population is a problem but it can also be nice having all the spawns you want. This can be fixed by joining the server with a couple friends. There have actually been several newbie guilds starting up lately as well.
The game is much more competitive which does bring out the crazies. That is unfortunate but it comes with the territory. The server is also much harsher due to PvP exp penalty on death, but it has been made clear that this this is changing, hopefully soon. I think the penalties from death piss people off a lot and brings on some hate.
There is also an exp bonus on the server that tries to help with the low amount of groups. It is currently scaled from 1-50 plus an all around 25% bonus from 1-60... there is some hope that this might go back up to 75% bonus.
Everything means more on red, death and accomplishments. Everything is yours for the taking.
One of the things that makes Everquest great for me is that you have the freedom to do whatever you want. I don't get that freedom on blue and restrictions take the power away from the player. On Red you get to choose who you associate with, who are your enemies, and what your reputation will be. I'm sure reputation means something on blue but not to the same degree.

Voted last option : Would play if it were a Team PVP server rather than all-pvp server (i.e. Tallon/Vallon Zek as opposed to Rallos Zek).
