Before I submit a bug petition, I wanted to check with others to make sure this isn't a common issue. I have a couple of logon accounts. One account, sometimes when logging in, I recieve a message that I have an active character.

This has happened several times recently. I don't think someone has hacked the account and playing it because I have changed the password twice to make sure and this account didn't have any characters on it till recently. When I log back in my character is where he was and nothing has changed.

I have another account that I never experience this. Thanks for any information in advance.

As far as I remember this has happened to a number of other people. Rumours all over the place suggesting it doesn't happen if you camp out as opposed to /q'ing out.

It's never happened to me however :/

Currently, there is no real fix. Apparently if you go to EQEmu and change your password, it might temporarily work. Sorry bud, but it's account specific. I'd make a new account before it's too late.

I had the issue for a week or so when I was just getting to the 30s. I had put in just enough time that I waited it out as opposed to restarting.

I've now started getting it again as I've approached and entered the 50s. It gets really, really old wondering if you'll be able to play that night.

If you have not gotten too far on the account, I'd accompany the above and suggest restarting now.

If you have gone quite a ways, I've had some success with changing passwords on the eqemu and loginserver (may just be eqemu, but I change them at the same time). Unfortunately, it's hard to say if that's actually helped resolve the issue or if it's just random/coincidental. I've had the issue clear up on its own after about 30 seconds and I've had myself locked out for more than 24 hours. The three times I've changed passwords, I got in within 30-60 minutes after.

I've never /q out since playing on this server, and I am the Error 1018 poster child.

Thanks guys, I just started on that character so I made another account. So far so good. I feel bad for the folks who have a higher level character already.

It's embarrassing that the only solution to this is to delete your account and start over.

That's awful. There seems to be no willingness between EQEmu and Project 1999 to resolve or even investigate a root cause of this issue.

Login worked yesterday. Today I'm getting Error 1018. Waited a few hours, server crashed, tried again, still getting Error 1018 even after a server reset. Awesome.

I've waited 6 hours, reset my router/modem, obtained new IP addresses, and changed my Login Server password.

I went through a similar behavior back on Live (including after patches). I'm pretty sure it was after Luclin, but it could have been as late as OoW. Petitions were most unhelpful at the time, and it definitely seemed to be account specific. My GF at the time didn't really have these issues, even when we were playing on each other's machines.

One day it just started working again. I think it took somewhere between 4 and 8 weeks and then I was good again for years. Perhaps there is a lingering bug somewhere in the older clients? If you could replicate this behavior with one of the other EQemu servers, perhaps you could compare an old vs. new client?

Just an update.

I have another account with this same problem. Both accounts are inaccessible at the exact same time from any IP address that tries to login. No matter who or where the login is occurring, the error will occur for hours at a time. Both accounts will eventually clear up and allow logins until the same behavior repeats itself a day later.

This is not specific to my computer, router, modem, or ISP. I have tested it with all kinds of configurations and locations.
