New to 99 - lots of questions

Hey folks, new to 99 but not to EQ; I did play back in 99 on Rallos Zek and later on Brell Serilis until 02 or 03.

I've been watching some vids recently posted, it seems like there is still a healthy lower level population of people leveling, or at least in the Freeport/Neriak > EC/WC zones - is this true all over or are there better places to start to party with people?

Is the Wiki up to date an accurate as far as xp penalty for races and class goes? If so does anyone know if those will change when they release Velious?

I will be playing on a blue server, honestly that first year on Rallos turned me off of pvp pretty much my whole MMO career :o - my question here is about RP - is there any going on? If so I would imagine there are some guilds that are RP based then - who are they?

How is the economy? Am I going to be having a hard time making money and purchasing items because I am coming into an inflated economy that puts new folks at a disadvantage? I'm not looking to twink myself out but I would like to be able to buy some basic stuff like cracked staffs if I make a monk etc.

I'm sure I will have more questions but that is it for now - sorry if I am posting something that gets asked a lot but I did a search for "new to project1999" and last thread relevant I saw was from October and it didn't answer any of these things.

Welcome aboard. The xp penatlies are accurate. They will be removed once velious hits as per classic. Good to see a former Brellian join the ranks. Inflation has been a problem of late but hit me up on here once you start playing and can give you a jump start :)

For my version of answering your questions: RP seems very vague not anything near what there was in original (sadly)...

Economy is fine you can collect bonechips and multiple quest rewards and make a profit for your time for gathering.. usually isnt that bad to make a profit... Also find a grp of people or guild to tag along with if u dont it will be a rather boring game and you begin to fade out.

For starting areas I recommend something near gfay or Freeport. The qeynos / tox areas can be somewhat barren. However don't let this stop you you can always get a port towards the commons / gfay if needed

There are plenty of former brellians around. Luckily ive been able to have Thulack as my name on every EQ server i have played and playing here i have been contacted by Players that i played with on Brell,Maelin,Fippy. It's great catching up with old friends.

I just need to decide on something! I always thought bards were interesting but never played one. I may go monk though because I loved my Iksar Monk. Shaman was the last thing I was working on so who knows maybe a shaman, sow would be nice in lieu of Jboots :P

I heard bard AE kiting was disabled - was that in live or on P99?

Plenty of low-level groups on this server. Orc 1 camp alive and well in EC and Orc Hill/CB groups alive and well in GFay. I don't know much about other lower level zones.

You will start from scratch but can make money selling bone chips/HQ pelts/CB Belts etc. and start building back up that way. You'll prob get a few handouts also from generous players. Kinda fun starting from scratch though...

EC Tunnel is packed liked the old days...buffs/auctions aplenty.

Ahh EC tunnel. That was one thing I loved about moving to Brell from Rallos. You didn't dare do that type of thing on a red server but on a blue server it was like a grand bazaar. Sadly Luclin ruined the tunnels usefulness.

Not so much worried about trolls, can't be any worse than WoW. How about griefers though? Pulling trains on purpose etc?

LoL another Dragonlance fan here as you can tell by forum name. I am slow on leveling myself with a 19 month running around but Crushbone seems to be busy in the evenings, est that is. Blackburrow has a decent crowd in it also.
Economy wise honestly it seems it is hard to find noob gear. The EC tunnel auctions are mostly 1k+ items. I don't know if people are hording the noob gear for the alts or if people are no longer farming them.

Absolutely coming back for some fun. Some reminiscing is good but I am looking forward to just exploring again. I totally plan to make the run from FP to Qeynos and then maybe to Halas just for old times sake.

I started in FP as a half elf bard. I made enough to buy a bronze sword for myself, I forgot how slow it is, just made 4!

You'll get there Mithas, don't stop too much to farm for plat - keep buying your spells/songs and you can work on the money side later on :)

That said, there's usually more than enough helpers on the server who will drop some money or items in a trade window without thinking about it :p
