While grouping today myself (Halos - Dwarf Cleric) and a group mate (Smashu - Ogre Warrior) noticed a huge difference in experience gained.

We were both LFG in Crushbone and decided to group up and look for more. We were both level 10 and we pulled and killed an orc, we laugh as we simultaneously ding 11. We fill our remaining slots and kill at wall, and move into Throne Room for a while. We start talking about xp gains and noticed I was lagging behind pretty badly. At one point he dings 13 and checks with me, I was exactly half a level behind. He even died once.

As I'm writing this we have been leveling in the same group together for hours now, he is into lvl 14 and I am not even 1 and a half yellow into 13 yet. If I remember correctly, Ogres also have an exp penalty, so I'm not sure why there's such a major difference in experienced gained between the two of us.

Pretty sure warriors have nice XP bonus

There's something funny going on with experience gains. I have a low-level human paladin, a friend has a half-elf ranger of the same level. The ranger consistently gains about 10% per level on the paladin, despite the two supposedly having an equal penalty. This has consistently happened for more than 20 levels now.

Also, of course, experience isn't averaged out within the group like it's supposed to be, so such problems are magnified in terms of impact on players.

Pretty sure warriors have nice XP bonus

Even with the class exp bonus (5%) the ogre should still be leveling much slower than the dwarf cleric due to the substantial ratial (or size) exp penalty (15%).

Exp gain has always been a little strange. My ogre warrior would almost always level faster than whoever else was in the group.

My ogre warrior levels faster in the group than anyone else. I usually group with a dwarf warrior, a dwarf cleric, wood elf druid, erudite wizard and whoever else fills the void.

Ogre warriors supposedly have -7% penalty.
Dwarf Warriors supposedly have 10% bonus.
Dwarf Clerics have no penalty or bonus
Erudite Wizard supposedly have -10% penalty

Yet, despite my exp compared to either dwarves, I level faster where none of us die.

seems like the - % penalty turned into +% gain . ? your dŽaccord ? :)

For some classes? yea definately.

I had the same issues in october when I was duoing with a ogre shaman. Ogre shaman had like 20% penalty and she had 5 yellow per 4 yellow I was getting.

Dwarf cleric here.

Ogre penalty is 15% = 1.15
Warrior bonus is 10% = .9
1.15 * .9 = 1.035
thus ogre warriors have only a 3.5% penalty.

You are doing your math wrong.

Ogre penalty. 15% = .85
Warrior bonus. 10% = 1.1
.85 * 1.1 = .935

Which means 6.5% penalty, or if it rounds up, 7% penalty.

You are doing your math wrong.

That makes more sense, but then the math in the FAQ is also wrong.

Exp penalties are multiplied not added, so a troll sk would be (1.4 x 1.2 = 1.68 or 68% penalty).

It would seem that the math is wrong, because normal experience should be considered 1.0, penalties are beneath that...

So as a troll sk, it should be .6 x .8 = .48, which to me, means a 52% penalty, and not 68%.

What are the experience penalties/bonuses?
By Race:
Troll -20%
Iksar -20%
Ogre -15%
Barbarian -5%
Halfling +5%

By Class:
Paladin / Shadowknight / Ranger / Bard -40%
Monk -20%
Wizard / Magician / Enchanter / Necromancer -10%
Rogue +9%
Warrior +10%

Exp penalties are multiplied not added, so a troll sk would be (1.4 x 1.2 = 1.68 or 68% penalty).

Halfling warrior would be 1.05 x 1.1 = 1.155, or a 15.5% bonus.
Halfling rogue would be 1.05 x 1.09 = 1.1445 or a 14.4 (or 14.5)% bonus.
Troll Warrior would be .8 x 1.1 = .88 or a 12% penalty.
Ogre Warrior would be .85 x 1.1 = .935 or a 6.5% penalty.
Barbarian Warrior would be .95 x 1.1 = 1.045 or a 4.5% bonus.
Troll Shadowknight would be .8 x .6 = .48 or a 52% penalty
Ogre Shadowknight would be .85 x .6 = .51 or a 49% penalty.

I think you get the idea. If this is wrong, please correct me because as far as I am concerned, bonuses go ABOVE 1.0, and penalties go BELOW 1.0 and you're supposed to multiply the numbers together and the difference between the two numbers compared to the neutral 1.0 should be the penalty or bonus percentage.

complete a level = L^3 * C * R * H

R =
Barbarian 105
Dark Elf 100
Dwarf 100
Erudite 100
Gnome 100
Half Elf 100
Halfling 95
High Elf 100
Human 100
Iksar 120
Ogre 115
Troll 120
Vahshir 120
Wood Elf 100

C =
Bard 14
Beastlord 14
Cleric 10
Druid 10
Enchanter 11
Magician 11
Monk 12
Necromancer 11
Paladin 14
Ranger 14
Rogue 9.05
Shadow Knight 14
Shaman 10
Warrior 9
Wizard 11

H =
1-29 1.0
30-34 1.1
35-39 1.2
40-44 1.3
45-50 1.4

= L^3 * C * R * H

DE Clr
= 10^3 * 10 * 100 * 1
= 1,000,000 xp to go from lvl 1 to 10

Troll SK
= 10^3 * 14 * 120 * 1
= 1,680,000 xp to go from lvl 1 to 10

the difference is 680,000 which would mean the troll needs 68% more exp to lvl then the DE cleric.
